Offensive woes self-fulfilling prophecy?

The self-fulfilling prophecy is, in the beginning, a false definition of the situation evoking a new behavior which makes the original false conception come 'true'. This specious validity of the self-fulfilling prophecy perpetuates a reign of error. For the prophet will cite the actual course of events as proof that he was right from the very beginning. LINK
Since Perilloux left and Miles was forced to go with Lee and Jefferson, his offensive mind-set appears to have change. After several years of both QBs, I preferred Lee to Jefferson and was happy with the offense last season until Jefferson was reinstated. I felt that Lee was more than capable as a senior QB, but likely lost his confidence as Jefferson increased his snap count every game and Miles preference for what he felt was the more risk-averse QB became clear to everyone.
Fast-forward to this year. I was on record to friends and family as saying that I hoped that terrible offense was a Jefferson/Miles issue and not a Miles issue. A similarly inept offense has appeared for the Tigers again this season. Due to the talent that LSU has, do you think that Miles football attitude towards offense has changed over the past few years and as a result, players have internalized his fears and lost confidence in their own abilities? I do.
In Hester’s senior year when they were going for it on Fourth down all the time, it appeared that the team and players had faith in themselves and the coaches had faith in the players. Offensively, I haven’t seen this since Lee was the clear starter at the beginning of the 2011 season (i.e. Oregon, West Virginia. Before those few games last season, I don’t think I’ve seen it since 2007. I further believe that our superior defense during that time and winning on defense in spite of our offense has enabled this type of thinking and perpetuated poor offensive expectations and production. What say you?

We had two poor QBs last season. Lee and Jefferson limited our offensive gameplan for the mos part limited our gameplan their entire LSU tenure. Miles was definitely at fault for not bringing in a recruit that could actually win a game if needed, but must have thought it was better to just get by with the two instead of having the team take a step back to actually improve the position.
Jarrett Lee, Mr. Mythical All American, benefited from a superior OL, running game, and defense. He crumbled against our first real defensive threat, but everyone excuses it. My idea of what Miles was thinking was that while Lee was a slightly better passer Jefferson offered more with his running ability that would be beneficial if the QB conditions weren't a cakewalk like they were early in the season pre Bama.
As in both Bama games and the UGA game the OL did not perform nearly as well and allowed considerable amounts of pressure on the QB.
This season is completely different. They have attempted to open it up, but our WRs can't catch and our injured OL isn't executing in basic scenarios. These have been the key issues stalling our offense with the poor WR play be the biggest problem.
So while the offense appears to be struggling it is for completely different reasons.
Also everyone acts like we have soooo much talent. I question that with our OL and WRs failing at the basics of their position.

Pretty sure you lost 99% of the Rant with your first paragraph.
In general, I think the team has taken on Miles' risk-averse attitude and is playing "tight".

I agree with most of what your saying, but I do think we have thrown the ball more this year already. I believe that Lee should have remained as starter and JJ should have rode the bench. But this year as far as Mett, dropped passes have been a issue, as have poor o-line performance. He has put it were it needs to be most of the time. Injuries on the O-line are a big issue. Miles is always gonna be coaching a run first, ball control type offense. And if executed well does what it's designed to do. Another issue with Miles though IMHO is lack of adjustments during games and between games as personel changes. I think you stick with your game plan during a game, but also adjust things as needed. We did not see that at all during the NC game, and you don't see it this year. I beleive that a lack of a proper OC is a big problem. But then again if Miles dosen't let a OC do his job of running the offense, it would not matter.

I concur completely sir, and have stated as such, though not so eloquently as yourself.

I went ahead and broke down the self-fulfilling prophecy definition and described how I think it might be affecting the offensive philosophy.
1.) The self-fulfilling prophecy is, in the beginning, a false definition of the situation.
a. Our Freshman QB (Lee) is prone to make drastic errors. To prevent this, we will play more conservatively which will prevent losing games we should win and allow us to compete against other good teams.
2.) Evoking a new behavior which makes the original false conception come 'true'.
a. We no longer need strong QB play because we can win with defense alone.
3.) This specious validity of the self-fulfilling prophecy perpetuates a reign of error.
a. We win lots of games and go to bowls every year. We even went undefeated in the 2011 regular season, all of which was done with subpar QB play.
4.) For the prophet will cite the actual course of events as proof that he was right from the very beginning.
a. LSU is a winning program. We've won multiple championships in the last decade and even went undefeated in 2011. LSU doesn't need to throw the ball and keep other teams off balance because we're LSU and we're that good. QBs for us "manage" the game, therefore we don't need or expect much from them because our defense is what wins games and our offense is prone to errors. It's a proven formula and it's our formula. Changes do not need to occur because the proof's in the pudding.

Vanilla pudding. That is the problem.

so LSU's offensive ineptness is YOUR fault?? i mean, self-fulfilling prophesy, right?

no.
Florida's kicking game exceeded LSU's.
Often LSU started on the 10.
Field position is a big deal when you are on the road in the SEC.

Lee was the most efficient qb in the sec, had 13 TD's and 1 int going into Alabama where he threw two ints and was benched for the rest of the season.

Lee average like 160 ypg in starts. That isnt something to champion when trying to argue someone was a great or even a good QB. He wasn't depended on to win games and had an easy job due to our dominance in other areas of the game. The efficiency stats are misleading.

Lee had a lot of short fields to work with due to the defense. He was still very efficient. Lsu was highly efficient in the redzone when he was the qb. That is a fact

As I stated he had an easy job. Doesn't make him the Mythical All-American that TD and some LSU fans turned him into over the last year. He got benched because he showed in the Bama game to be the same QB as before and was not dependable in a less than coddling situation.
I am just glad the two QBs from the past four years are gone and tired of people making them out to be more than they were.
Eventhough Mett still has room to grow he is much better than those two guys as a QB.
