"We're not going to talk much about the re-issuing of the suspensions because it seems like after the Saints won the game this week, America has moved on from this story."

And then the spent the rest of the segment talking about--YOU GUESSED IT--Tim Tebow and the Jets.

Yes, America, this is where modern journalism is as a whole and ESPN in particular. "We're gonna ignore this story and in essence allow Roger Goodell to get away with criminal behavior because New York City isn't interested in this story anymore. We're going to shamelessly shoot for the highest ratings humanly possible instead by talking about the same thing we've talked about for 6 months instead."

The thing that rubs me the wrong way the most about this declaration is that the reason "America" doesn't care about this story is because ESPN refuses to cover it or investigate.

But America really seemed to care when you piled on the team and reported those false wiretapping accusations, right, ESPN. Remember them? The ones you never apologized for or retracted?

I'm not watching, but This doesn't bother me. What is pathetic is how they tried to diminish Brees' record. I swear that network makes an agenda and pushes it.

I literally cannot watch that show any more.

I still check out skip bayless every now and then only to see his reactions to certain games..

Mike and Mike, and ESPN programming in general (except say for Van Pelt) is for idiot fans.

I can't watch anything on that network except for games. At least with the games, they hold stupidity to a minimum.

Most, if not all, people outside of NOLA and/or Louisiana are tired of the "bountygate" story. Sorry that offends you.

The tebow stuff really is compelling.

No. It offends me that ESPN is letting a criminal get away with screwing the Saints over because the "story" doesn't pander to the lowest common denominator, like Tim Tebow does.

No, no, no. It's okay. Because it's "Greenie's favorite team."

I'm definitely not saying ESPN has riveting material, just that they'll pander to the newest story. Happens to be that the NYJ fans are all pissy lately so they're pandering to that crowd now...

It's whatcha get when you have 24/7 coverage in the media, sadly.

Everyone is tired of it, and really there's nothing to talk about right now, because we all know it's going back to court. That's when it'll get interesting again.

Apparently it was "riveting news" today that Mike & Mike and Gameday are going to South Bend this weekend. That's definitely more important. Oh, but that's "Golic's Favorite Team," so that's okay too.

Hey that is kinda riveting. I can't remember the last time GameDay has been to Notre Dame.

ESPN creates its own demand, pure and simple.

One big reason why "people don't care" about the Saints but "people care" about Tim Tebow is because ESPN DOESN'T SHUT THE frick UP ABOUT TIM TEBOW EVER, but they selectively ignore the Saints story. Unless they're creating bogus stories about wiretapping, of course.

Seriously--do you think people out there were screaming "WE WANT STORIES ABOUT JEREMY LIN" before ESPN created "Linsanity?" 8 people outside of New York City knew who Jeremy Lin was when ESPN started shoving him down our throat.

Weekly Mike & Mike thread

The precursor to the eventual Colin Cowherd thread.

I sense a glimmer of hope that people are finally turning the tmz of sports off. That's all you have to do. Watching that is increasingly like watching a loop of tmz, entertainment tonight, and whatever the current most popular Jerry Springer type show is.

I catch some flak for some long copy n pastes. Part of it for me is that there is so much static out there from literal talking heads that when coming across something of substance it stands out all the more. Individual thought, creativity, and research are dying in the media. You can find some good stuff out there. It usually takes some looking around and then time to read.

They actually covered the story a lot longer and a lot more favorably than you could expect IMO. Granted that was Greenie siding with the players more than the Saints, but when Vilma was making his press I was surprised they were spending so much time on it and saying Goodell was wrong.

1) You clearly have no clue what criminal behavior is.
2) This story is a non story until it gets back to court, so from a national perspective it isn't newsworthy.

Isn't NBC bringing an all sports all the time network of their own? I'd probably watch that more.

Only thing ESPN is good for anymore is the 30 for 30 movies.

a. bullshite

b. NYC and its metro area matters. why pander to a metro area of 1.2M when you have one of 15M, not to mention other huge metro areas with rivalries (aka, they will pay attention)

they do this b/c people do care about tebow. it's a hot topic with a liked figure on a national scale. now he's got major interest with the NY/NE market, so that's kind of a big deal
