OK, for the record, NO, I don't know nearly as much about football as CLM does and I am, btw, a CLM fan. However, I do agree with the statement above. It is my, as well as many others, opinion that he is playing more not to lose than he is to win. He isn't taking the chances that he used to take and I feel that it is taking away from the teams swagger. I am not saying that I am 100% right, but this is my opinion, and having been a fan through all of the ups and downs over the past 46 years, I believe that I can speak my opinion without being disrespectful to the coach.

Venting is fine...we all do it and that's one of the purposes of a sports forum.

But I am all about being critical

Being critical is fine. Most of us have throw a football, baseball, and dribbled a basketball. If you are like me, you have spent hrs, days, weeks, and months of your life watching/playing sports.

We might not know how to build/maintain a good football program, but we probably know what one looks like.

I'm just not going to be very critical of a HC/staffs/teams/players who have given me the very best yrs of being an LSU fan that I have ever known. Well, at least not till they stop giving those yrs to me.

Programs, all of them, have ups and downs. I'm not football smart enough to know where we are just yet. I'll let the coaches/players show me and others can do as they please.

No and that is about any facet of the game. He did not luck into a $4 million a year job. Nobody does and even if they did, they wouldn't keep it.

Are there "better" head coaches in college football? Maybe. Are there many? No.

I don't think I've ever put down a player.

I can say I remember the 80's and 90's very well. When we were a program that "was tough at home" but nationally didn't get much respect, deservedly so. I don't want to see that again. I don't think we will even with the current offensive performance but our current offense has got to be hurting potential wr and qb recruits. We get great talent yet can't get the best at those positions. We can still be a power running team but with some play action like Bama. The loss didn't help but to be honest most fans unhappy with the offense have been so for a while. It isn't as if the problems just came about with the injuries this year. Passing has sucked for years.

So who is responsible for five straight years of mediocre offense?

The ones I am critical of CLM and all the offensive coaches. I won't blame injuries, players, etc b/c in the course of the last 5 years we have been very healthy at times and still haven't been an offensive juggernaut.

Ultimately, the HC.

But the history is a little more complex than that. Our O in the latter part of '06 and all of '07 was outstanding. Even in '08, with the exception of the OM game, we scored enough points to win most of the games. Heck, we even scored 21 on UF at the Swamp (more than OU did in the BCSCG vs them). No RP that year, Hatch got hurt, no one to spell JL (really tough learning curve for him), and then JJ as a true Fr. Yet we were still scoring pts.

IMO, after '08 Les installed restrictor plates on Crwoton. No more playin' it fast-n-loose. So from '09 on, we've taken a very conservative approach (note: This is not synonymous with a bad approach. It has its place and time). Play great on D and STs and let other teams shoot themselves in the foot.

A good example of this is vs AU in '10. We were all tied at 17 into the 4th qtr, got great position at our own 40 with 7:51 to play. Great position to be in.

The downside to this was seen Sat. It puts an enormous amount of strain on the D, sort of handcuffs ourselves, and when you really need something extra in the engine, it ain't there.

Where I think Les needs to consider a paradigm shift is to realize when you can play great on D/STs, you can afford to play with more risk on O.

I know I could draw up three better plays that what he called at the end of the half against Florida. I know I would have given Lee some snaps against Bama. I know I would have hired better OC's that what we have had unless I succumbed to having a scapegoat in the box. I know that we can't go undefeated everyyear but we have to make changes based on personnel. I know that I could make adjustments from one half to the next without being so fricking stubborn that it cost my team more than a few games. I know I do not earn 5 million per year and get as many passes or excuses at my job as he does at his.

Also, you probably knew the oline would have allowed Lee to throw ........caus we all knew he wouldve had plenty of time.

Like you said. You know alot.

No!

but:
I know less than a doctor about medicine, but I can tell when someone is dead!
I know less than an obgyn, but I can tell when someone is pregnant!
The point.... You do not have to be the ultimate expert to have an informed and valid opinion. Thus, our offense is too conservative and bland.
