I have an A-bolt 7mm with a boss on it and aside from maybe a little less recoil, ive never really been that into it. I supposedly have it dialed into the "sweet spot". Do any of you guys know much about adjusting them? It's accurate but I feel like I would be just as accurate without it. It also makes it extremely loud.

I bought a nice Browning A-Bolt from a friend that had the Boss on it. This has been several years ago. He called them and raised hell about how loud it was and they sent him a replacement (free of charge). The replacement doesn't have the ports in it, it's fluted. I acquired a BAR with a Boss and tried the same trick and they wanted me to pay for it so I said no thanks.

I have one and I hate it. Will destroy your ears in a box stand. I just leave it set at zero.

It does take all the recoil out of a rifle though.

Any muzzle brake should have ZERO effect on accuracy.

It's not just a brake. It has settings to extend the barrel a slight about depending on the grain of bullet. Supposedly to tune barrel vibration for accuracy.

I called Browning and asked THEIR people several years ago when it was first coming out. They told me you better be wearing muffs,, (even while on a deer stand to shoot one time)...
I politely said thanks for the info. and hung up. No Boss for me on the BAR that I bought and sold later that year because of jamming.

Yeah deacon, I'm familiar with the system. Still shouldn't have a positive effect on accuracy. Good barrel with clean crown>gimmicky ear destroyer.

On my 300 Win mag. Significantly reduced recoil. Noise is not much diff from what I could tell. Have shot under sheds, out of shooting houses. Simple solution for noise. Wear ear protection when practicing. . You should wear them with any high power gun.

Boss
it tunes the barrel for accuracy. It can have a muzzle brake in it or not. They have to be set & tuned

When Browning first came out w/ the "Boss" on their rifles, one of my hunting buddies at the time referred to it as "a dog turd at the end of the barrel." That's stuck w/ me ever since. One of my current hunting buddies has a Browning w/ a Boss, but hasn't really noticed any significant impact on accuracy w/ it.

Although none of my rifles have a Boss, I do have 2 Thompson Contender barrels w/ a muzzle brake, a 375 JDJ and a 338 JDJ#2. It certainly increases the muzzle noise heard by the shooter and decreasess muzzle rise, although recoil to the rear is increased.
