Two words for you buddy: Ryan Leaf.

If you need more, see also David Klingler, any Texas Tech QB, Akili Smith, Ricky Clausen, Rick Mirer.

If you need still more, and want to get really obscure, see Robert Marve, Josh Booty, Ben Olson, Kyle Wright, Jonathan Crompton, or Mitch Mustain.

What's the point of listing all these guys? Some had very good college careers and were even first round draft picks.

Some people painted the image that Mett was going to be Tom fricking Brady out there, and now he is under performing and they want him benched.

Those are the same people who also think we run the Patriots offense.

No shite, really. Did I say I was. I asked for an opinion (hopefully based on watching the guy at games, during games, out at bars etc). Can you form one?

If you need an explanation for this, then you are probably beyond help. Some guy thinks that Mett is a great QB beacsue he was the #1 JUCO ranked QB. Rankings -- as the examples show -- can be wrong.

Seriously man...come on.

You said yourself how mad others on the team would be if they thought or perceived Mett wasn't trying hard enough.

That is your gauge right there... the other players. When you start hearing the players say things like well the QB just needs to settle down, or the QB just needs to X Y and Z... then I would say you are correct.

All I hear from every offensive position is what THEY need to be doign better. Everyone on that offense (for the time being anyway) knows they each have their own issues to correct.

I promise you during the game Mett is not making jokes and fricking off. The guy stays intense and does a lot talking to players and trying to pump them up. The guy doesn't walk off by himself, sit there and do nothing. He is one of the first off the bench during time outs to talk to the team.

And since you're obviously not at practice either, so how can you decipher that he puts in less effort than anybody else on the team?

You do realize almost every player on the team goes out to bars during the week and after games right?

Let me guess Mett shouldn't be allowed to talk to girls either during the season?

Who knows what's on his mind? You ask for proof but everything you keep bringing up are things that you have no way of actually knowing.

h, and that clown on my team was one of the best players and leaders on the team.

Let me ask you this then, was this clown ever someone who put in anything less than 100% in everything he did for the team? Maybe Mett does and he still wants to clown. Who really knows. But all indications seem to say he does not, including Blackwell's quotes and the fact that he was rumoured to have spent large portions of the year in Miles's doghouse.

Link?

But seriosuly, just because people think he is the best we have on the team right now... doesn't mean people think he is great. You are making general statements and assumptions. You know what happens to those who assume correct?

I did give my opinion you fricking clown. My opinion is that you're an idiot and Mett should not be benched. Rather, we should fix the other more important issues which are obviously hindering his performance.

Do none of you people read? Or let me correct myself, do so few of you people read? And while you are reading, think about the things left unsaid.

What are these indications?

What rumors that he was in the doghouse? I haven't heard of a single one.

I don't even know the full quote but the word clown was used apparently. This must mean Mett is a cancer to the team and should lose his scholly?

Am I right?

I made no general assumptions, and I was specifically talking about one poster. You might be one of the few people on this site that can think objectively and agree that Mett may be average, but not great. As for the link, its around page 2.

Early in the week, coach Les Miles said he’s enjoyed Mettenberger’s play, and that his struggles only come from him trying to do too much. Mettenberger agreed, saying his playmaking doesn’t come from scrambling out of the pocket.

So Mett trying to do too much = not trying to do enough? What am I missing in this article?

Oh nobody must have been taking anything seriously last year.

From personal experience I will tell you that there are VERY VERY few college athletes who will not make a selfish decision at some point in their college career (to varyign degrees of selfishness) That could mean going out late during the week, playing xbox instead of studying for that test, etc. There is probably only a fraction of a percent of all college football players who are robots and make all the correct football decisions 100% of the time.

Your quotes you keep pointing to are from last year correct? Was Mett starting last year? Does he act the exact same this year as last? You can't answer these questions, so how in the world do you want us to answer them for you.

Yet you use these reasons as your basis for benching Mett.

I have wasted enough of my time on this topic today. If you are trolling it was a success.

I guess you think listing Heisman finalists and NFL draft picks makes your point. If Mett is able to approach some of those careers, then I think most people will be happy with that.

I've been disappointed by Mett so far, but you're condemning him and calling other people idiots based on 6 games.

I read that entire article and still stick to my argument. Mett is no world beater, but replacing him is not the answer.

I'm wondering if you read the article?

Tigers rarely change their stripes. And no, I am not trolling. These reasons are not the only reasons one might consider for benching him.
