Not being on the USMNT seals the deal right?

The deal has been sealed for a long time.

Funny I thought he was "the best player on the field" last summer in some game. You'd think he was coming into his own.

He finally got back into the team in the Gold Cup and played pretty well, then Bob got fired and he hasn't been called up since.

apparently he was benched in MLS...not a good sign. Also got blamed for the U23 team failures in Olympic qualifying.

false. Plenty of blame to spread around but most of it belongs to Johnson, Hamid, and Caleb Porter. Not to mention the midfielder who gave up possession with only a minute left in the game when we just needed to hold on. I believe that was Shea.

I don't remember that, although I was out of town for the last game or two. I thought it was mainly the manager/goalkeepers that got most of the blame. The games I saw he was playing pretty well.
I could be wrong though.

He did play well in the Gold Cup.
It's true. Can't deny it.

As for Adu, he still has talent and can be dangerous. The problem is he has not matured or filled in the holes in his game. Factor in that he is very lightweight, cannot play defense and is not not particularly fast and I just don't think he's ever going to make that next step in his career. He is a luxury player and he has still been not been able to find a coach to take a chance on him, I think his work ethic might have something to do with that.
Mega talented youth players (u17) who don't turn into good professionals is certainly nothing new in soccer though.

Adu is more like 26-27. Dude had no birth cirtificate. I remember him from my childhood. No way he is the age he says he is. Just like baseball players. These kids were born in 3rd world countries and the moms have no proof of their age.

Soccer's version of Julio Franco.

Thats my theory. The reason he didnt progress greatly was he was closer to his peak than his age made it seem. I remember him being the same age as me then magically in 3 years i got older, but he stayed the same age.

He's 23. This is the biggest dead horse argument in US Soccer history. It's borderline "OBAMA IS A KENYAN" conspiracy. He physically matured in stature early, and stopped growing like any normal teenage boy. You could tell he was an awkward 14 year old just by the fact that his voice would crack during DC United interviews.
He never panned out because he was asked to do too much, too early in his career, rather than develop as a player in a professional academy setting.
He can only play one position well, a true #10. He isn't particularly fast, nor is he a great passer. He's incredibly weak. He can pull a few dribble tricks and occasionally create a decent scoring chance. There's a reason he warms the bench for a bad MLS team. He'll have a decent MLS career like a Danny Cruz or a Mike Magee.

I'd hate to know I was paying a DP salary for Freddy. He can't be a big ticket draw anymore.

Dude was born in ghana, you wont convince me otherwise. I thought furcal was the age he said he was for years. Boy i was wrong. You are basically saying its not possible hes not 23. Which it is. Asked to do too much? Jack wilshere is 20 years old and will start and has started fir Arsenal. Kids start at a young age in europe and develope just fine.

Yea and for every Jack WIlshere there are 20 busts. Terrible fricking argument.
