Anyone out there disagree that Zach is a better QB in a shotgun formation? (He cocks his arm back before throwing and has average/below average mobility)

Shouldn't the coaching staff change their preferences to fit their personnel?

Hasn't other teams proven that running the ball out of shotgun is as effective as running out out of single-back/I-formation

Any disagreement out there?

A post below found the following article:

LINK

"Mettenberger and quarterbacks coach Steve Kragthorpe have discussed ways to deal with the pass rush while the reformed offensive line jells, and they decided the shotgun formation was not the answer. Mettenberger said taking the snap under center with a five-step drop allows him to read the defense better than if he has to take his eyes off the opponent momentarily to catch a shotgun snap."

Pistol formation would work very nice for him

Certainly gives him more time to make the throws he is capable of making. I think it also lets him see the field better.

I would like to see shotgun, 1 back sets a lot more. Delayed handoffs would work well if we continue to execute the TE passes over the middle and vice versa.

His feet are so damn heavy in the 3-stop drop.

I agree and maybe part of the reason is that he always has at least one RB back there with him and maybe one on each side to chip extra pass rushers to give him a little bit more time.

Shotgun would work, they just need to spread out the defense and stop telegraphing their runs up the middle.

Thank you! I heard some great stats on how effective Mett was in the shotgun on Saturday. If someone finds those stats, please post.

Basically what I was thinking. Usually when Belichek has rushed thus year, 80% of the time it has been out of the shotgun.

Here are some things I do know:

The bomb to Beckham- Shotgun
The 3rd and long conversion (only 3rd down conversion all day)- Shotgun
Ability to pick up corner blitz (killing this team)- Shotgun
Ability to read the defenses better- Shotgun.

I think LSU's only chance to win is if they run 2/3 of their offense through the gun.

You can run the entire multiple pro offense from the pistol which in theory would benefit Mett, however, the footwork for the qb in the pistol is pretty tough so that goes against what some of you guys are saying.

Would make sense with a statue QB

I think we could benefit from a deeper shotgun formation as well

He has a cannon. Does it really matter if he is 2 yards deeper in the shotgun than a traditional formation?
