How many times have you watched Bedoya? I haven't watched him much either because he was too shitty to break into Admin-Huns, but I've seen him (mainly with Helsingborg) enough to know that his Gold Cup performance was the exception, not the rule. He has no positional awareness, can't cross, has an average at best first touch, gives up on runs/after perceived fouls, and isn't a good goal scorer. He's shite and doesn't merit being called up again until he proves himself at a top-half EPL side.

What if, hypothetically speaking, Celtic got him and he proved himself in the world's best one-club league?

No. If he looked good against the Barcas, Spartaks, and Benficas of the world during the UCL, maybe. But being that Forrest is a much better, and younger, version of Bedoya, I don't see Celtic picking him up anytime soon.

ETA: On the UCL, see Forster's call-up to England this week and Gary Lineker's call for Hooper to be picked.

Bedoya battled nagging injuries for most of the first part of last season, and then made a respectable 12 appearances for a club that wasn't paying its players. He already has a goal and six appearances for Helsingborg. He's looked decent in a few caps for the US, and average in a few others. He's not "shite" by any stretch of the imagination. It's not like Bob Bradley was just throwing out Danny Cruz in big Gold Cup matches for the hell of it.

Well that sucks for: Graham Zusi, Joe Corona, Edgar Castillo, Nick Rimando, Brad Guzan, Herculez Gomez, Eddie Johnson, Fabian Johnson, Sacha Kljestan, Clarence Goodson, Kyle Beckerman, Danny Williams, Jermaine Jones, Brek Shea, Michael Parkhurst, Carlos Bocanegra, Steve Cherundolo, Michael Bradley, Alan Gordon, Geoff Cameron, Maurice Edu, and Landon Donovan.

Tim Howard and Clint Dempsey need no other players to defeat mighty Antigua and Barbuda.

Unlike most of the other people in your list, Bedoya played himself out of a call-up. After playing himself out of consideration, he moved to a much lesser league (the absolutely horrific Swedish league) and has continued to be terrible (UCL v. Celtic) to about average (league play). Playing decent to good in Sweden is not worth getting a call-up after you've failed miserably.

The other players in your list played well in low leagues and merited being called up. When they got called up, they impressed. When they returned after their call-ups, they continued to impress.

The only glaring omission is Jozy, and it is a very bad decision by Klinsmann. The next 2 games are extremely important for the future of US soccer, and he refuses to call up one of our 7 most important, healthy players. That's simply inexcusable.

It's a shame that he is letting whatever petty grudge he has against Altidore get in the way of an otherwise fine selection of players.

I would prefer Lichaj over the useless and weak Castillo. But other than that issue, which is really a petty argument over who will be the back-up left back, I like the line-up. Gordon is a strange pick, but again, he is the 6th choice attacking option. He might as well call one of us in. That's not a big deal.

But leaving out Jozy? Is he insane? Or does he just want to be the biggest fricking hypocrite in California other than that twink, Justin Bieber? He drones on and on about how it is important to play well for your club. Jozy has 10 goals in 8 games, you fricking moron. And sure the Dutch league is easy, but it's not like he's playing against a bunch of JV high schoolers.

We need goals and those usually come from attacking players. If we stick 3 DMs in Anitgua of all places, I will be very mad.

This hsould be the clear cut line-up for the first game

Howard
Cherundolo-Cameron-Bocanegra-Johnson
Zusi-Bradley-Jones-Donovan
Dempsey-Gomez

I would have done that regardless, but I'd like the option of bringing Jozy and Brek off the bench in the second half. And if we are up 3-0, maybe Danny Williams can come on for Landon. And let's play Corona in the 85th minute so he can finally be an official USMNT player with no chance of playing for Mexico.

TN, you're a fricking idiot. I would quote myself from the last page, but obviously you can't take a hint.

Until that last part I thought you were talking about his move from Sweden to Scotland.

I agree. Klinsmann is a hypocrite. That said, Jozy has obvious attitude problems if he thinks he can dis the coach on twitter and get away with it. The criticism was at least slightly legit, in my opinion. He play for the NT has been poor lately. Then again, so has the service to him, but when he did have the ball (at least against Jamaica) he gave it away cheaply.

Serious question that isn't getting at any point:

Who here has watched Alan Gordon multiple times this year?

Honestly.

I've seen him a few times.

He is what he is, an opportunistic finisher. He doesn't belong on anyone's national team. Bring in Justin Braun. Bring in Terrence Boyd. Bring in Jozy. Make them watch tape of Alan Gordon. Tell them... "Look, this is what he does. We're going to bring you on in the 80th minute when we NEED a goal. If this hack can do it, you certainly can."

I've got MLS Live. Tell me which game is a "quintessential all-encompassing picture of Alan Gordon in his finest hour", and I'll watch it.

The four or five people on this board who follow MLS religiously.

He's a good player. Has good technique, decent size. He'll win headers and probably provide good target play. Slow as Christmas. If Jurgen wants to fire in cross after cross against inferior opposition, then Alan and Eddie aren't bad callups. Guess W's trump big ideas when qualification is on the line. Bob was a much better coach.

Jurgen's most glaring weakness as the National team manager is selecting for the team and the XI, players that will provide width. When the USMNT has been at its best under Klinnsmann is when a Donovan, Shea, or Zusi (a versatile Central Attacker) have attacked the open spaces wide. Obviously the fullbacks are important in the wide game, but they can't exactly overlap when the winger decides to play in the middle of the park (Torres, Dempsey, Williams?) Hopefully Jurgen has figured this out by now. I doubt it, though.

I've seen Gordon play several times this year.

He scores, like most for SJ, at the death off of an opportunistic bounce or break. He always comes through in the clutch.

We need a finisher like this, but there are more athletic and younger guys out there (who actually have a future on the team) who should take his spot.
