I think behind Herc. If it's an important game and the choice is Jozy and Boyd I'd still go with Jozy. I assume most everyone would.

Boyd for a while looked like he couldn't even do the simplest things, like trap a ball. He has looked a lot better lately. He must have just been too hyped up or something.

I just think Herc's been our best striker lately. To me he works the hardest, has the best movement, scored against Brazil, Antigua & Barbuda, and Jamaica, set up Dempsey's goal against Jamaica, etc. He's actually pretty good on free kicks and set pieces too.

Outside of the strikers I don't think the roster's that bad.

Still no width on the roster. If Landon can't go, it's a place that can be attacked, especially if he chooses to use Parkhurst and Zusi in the same game.

I mean, I guess you could use Shea as a wide midfielder, but Klinsmann would rather try to instill a "pretty" 4-3-3/4-5-1, than play a 4-4-2 and win a fricking game.

No Landon, and it'll (whichever game) be Jamaica 1, part two.

well compared to what we have available, it's not that bad. unfortunately, what we have available as a whole is pretty fricking bad. the more i look at our available player pool, the more i realize how little talent we fricking have. it's depressing. we are not good at soccer right now, and i hate it.

Which is why I would include Beasley. That just gives us two wide left sided players though. I'm struggling to think of another option on the right after Donovan. I know Zusi can play "on the right" but he's definitely not a quick, tricky winger type.

Who would you have brought in for that type of role?

I believe Gatt is a right sided player but I've only seen one highlight video of him. He looks fast, I guess. I have no idea if he's ready and couldn't pick him out of a crowd.

I don't know if we need to play a 4-4-2 to get results, and am not even sure it fits our personel. Any 4-4-2 under Jurgen's most likely going to have Dempsey as one of the "strikers" in a withdrawn role, and that's basically no different than a 4-4-1-1. Dempsey drops incredibly deep at times in that role.

I don't think Jozy (or SK or Bedoya, etc.) has done enough for everyone to mutiny after they aren't picked.

Bedoya is much worse than Alan Gordon.

I'm not as down on the overall pool as you are, but especially when it comes to width I think it's more of a US soccer problem than a Klinnsman selection problem.

You could go with two left sided players in Shea and Beasley, but on the right there's just not a lot going on outside of Landon.

Well, there is Bedoya.

This quote pretty much sums up Klinsmann's spin bullshite. He waxes on and on about wanting to instill aesthetically pleasing football to the national team and to the US Soccer setup. Yet, in this brief quote, he totally goes against that M.O. by stating that his forwards need to work harder to create their own chances. David Villa and Mario Gomez score tons of goals because their national teammates put them in excellent positions to finish. Criticize a striker when he doesn't finish chances he's supposed to finish, not when he doesn't score because he never received the ball in dangerous positions.

Agreed.

These selections are a joke. Why waste your time with this Alan Gordon character when you have an opportunity to get Boyd some more valuable WCQ experience?

The US roster was released, and the Twittersphere exploded — as per usual. To quote a noted philospher, "It is what it is."

And what "it is" is the inclusion of Alan Gordon over a host of other, "more deserving" candidates.

Circular logic.

Let's say Taylor Twellman gets a callup over Bradley. It is what it is, motherfrickers!!! Don't question it...

Isn't that why he brought in Sacha?
And didn't we just dominate Jamaica without Landon?

The width is going to come from Steve and Landon.
I think we'll be ok with Donovan, Dempsey, Bradley, Klejstan/Zusi, Williams and the same back line we had last time out. We'll be better than at any other time in qualifying, regardless of which strikers are sitting on the bench.

Move Dempsey if you have to.

The thing is, with ONE wide midfielder, you can plan.

Put Cherundolo (or Lichaj....whoops he isn't here) on the same side as Zusi, you have an overlap for width. You can Beasley on the left, and force your offense with Johnson/Beasley on that side, letting the right "stay home."

Instead, you run Cherundolo ragged on the right with only Parkhurst behind him for the next game.... or better yet, play Castillo out of position on the right.

I would have been okay with Bedoya as a wide option, as well.

Brek Shea also didn't dress for FC Dallas' humdrum draw against the worst team in the Western Conference, and will probably get at least some playing time. This has been his worst season as a professional player, yet Klinsmann maintains that club form definitely matters in his selections.

Brek has one goal in live play this year. I've watched every FCD game this year, and he's been nonexistent. I can only recall a 30 minute span in one game were he was the Brek of last year. That said, he looks way better as a super sub for the USMNT than he does for FCD this year.

The only part of that I'd be against is moving Dempsey. He hasn't played on the right in ages, that and he's crossed the ball like once in the past 5 years. Put him on the right and he'll just drift into the hole right behind the striker.

I wouldn't mind Beasley/Shea on the left, Dempsey behind the main striker, and Donovan/Zusi on the right.

And I'm not as against the 4-3-3 with Dempsey on the left and Donovan on the right as you are. The problem is it's just unworkable if Donovan's not available.

I can say this about Gordon: he will not lose possession, and he can pick out a pass with the best of them.

There's a Leauxgan epic ode involving urinating on someone while their corpse is engulfed by the everlasting flame, and then there's this.

Both are quality.
