Four years ago, Shepherd was one of the leading recruits coming out of high school. He was a high school qb w/a questionable arm. They try to convert him to W.R. Supposedly he has trouble catching the ball. Ok.. line him up at slot back, tailback.. put him in the wildcat & direct snap it.. DO SOMETHING W/HIM. The kid has great speed yet, for four years, by & large, he has been BIG TIME under used by a H.C. who is DETERMINED to pound the dad gum ball through the walls of the state capital.

He would be a Heisman contender at Oregon without a doubt.

Dude gets straight up body slammed every time he runs the ball. Not sure he could survive more than 4-5 carries/game. Then he can't catch, and can't throw. I'm not sure where else you can work him in??

I was talking about this just this morning with a coworker over coffee. He busts a 70+ yard run and has not taken another handoff since. I truly do not understand these coaches' decisions sometimes.

ETA: He got a handoff or two versus Florida, my bad. My depression overwhelmed my eyesight.

Couldn't he be used the way Miles used Trindon Holiday or was Holiday that much faster than Shep?

I agree. He does have issues catching, but he should get 5-10 attempts a game IMO. Plus, we never use him as a decoy.

He had the sweep play Saturday and got 4yds. Les didn't like that I guess.

I must have missed that in my drunken depression, sorry about that.

I am sure he feels the exact same way. You have to tip your hat to the guy though. He has stayed in this putrid offense and hasn't complained for the most part.

Identical thread as last week and I got grudge fricked for mentioning it.

He has to be perceived as a real threat to be effective as a decoy

I don't have the answer, I just know what I see. He's not a good receiver or QB, and he takes a beating when tackled. He deserves some carries, but I really think 4-5x game is about all he can take.

Completely agree. I can't see how, given his high school film, how we've groomed him and all his talent. It's sad and I'm sure the Les fan boys will run in here and say he wasn't talented to begin with and was overrated.

I'm guessing some of this stuff goes back to practice. Miles probably wants guys who are Earl Campbell TOUGH.. Shep isn't like that.

He's not better than D'Anthony Thomas or K. Barner.

Shepard has a tremendous, amount of talent, it just hasn't translated into the football field. He just isn't a good receiver, and you can't just keep running jet sweeps to him every game. The coaches have tried getting him involved, but nothing works

Was he ever given a real chance? I just don't understand how he was lighting it up in HS and he's been a complete and total non-factor in our offense for 4 years. What would he be in a Chip Kelly or Leach offense?
