Fogerty was never a druggie. About that song, he's said he just wanted to make his son laugh.

I love Someday Never Comes, but I believe Fortunate Son is the most perfect rock song ever recorded. It's not the best CCR song, it's the best anybody song.

A statue wearing high heels
A giant doing cartwheels
tambourines and elephants are singing in the band
Dinosaur Victrola listening to Buck Owens.

Wonder what he would have thought of if he WAS high?

Not in my top anything of CCR, and not in my top 1,000 all time.

Contrast with the first lines, which are about as literal and expository as you will ever see:

Just got home from Illinois, locked the front door, oh boy!
Got to sit down, take a rest, on the porch.
Imagination sets in, pretty soon I'm singin',
Doo doo doo, lookin' out my back door.

The rest was simply all his imagination. Great, great song. Always brings a smile.

Their version of Cotton Fields is probably my favorite version of the song itself.

With that being said CCR has lots of good music, but their best song is Cotton Fields by a long shot for me.

Fortunate Song is the "Welcome to the Jungle" of CCR. Great song when you first hear it but after listening to it 10,000 times and exploring the rest of their music, it's not so great.

CCR's repertoire defies ranking. I can't honestly say what is my favorite. Lump them all together, and say you're taking one or a few out, and it's like 'hey whoa, whoa hey'.
