I wanted to go squirrel hunting but couldn't het anyone to go. :( took my dog to a field and did some training. Beautiful. Then took bin to the dog park for some socialization and to attract some poon.

Spinning my mind to think of other things to do outside

Hung out in a tree all morning.

Bout to go light a fire, change the oil in my truck, rotate my tires, and make a blood trail for my dog.

unfortunately not. have a few (ok a lot) left to do.

I pretty much gave all of yesterday to the outdoors so I guess I'm not totally fricked.

Just hanging out watching football. Gonna go lay in the sun for a bit. Summer here feels never ending which isn't typical. Because of the weather my climbing club might be climbing Three Fingered Jack next Saturday.

What kind of dog? How are you setting up the trail for it?

I have a 7 mo old bloodhound pup that I want to train to track deer, but dont know the best way of going about training him....

ETA: I went back and read where you had posted in my thread months back about training a bloodhound. Hows yours doing? Mine has the tracking the hotdog around the yard down pat. Its so easy its not even fun. I need to take him to the next step....

The pup is doing great. Haven't gotten to put her on a deer yet. I'm kinda waiting for a slam dunk easy job for her first one. She's smoking the homemade trails though.

My older male is doing good. He found one two nights ago. Unfortunately it wasn't dead when he got to it and he ran it out of the country.

That's a good sign. A good trick is to get a bell for him and put it on a separate collar. Only put that collar on him when you want him to trail stuff. That way he knows when the bell collar goes on, it's time to sniff for deer.

ETA: And try to train him with something that bleeds. Deer liver is the best, with beef liver in a distant 2nd. That liver smell is impossible to replicate and it's what they'll be smelling on a gut shot deer.
