I know it's against the religion of some of the morons on this board to look at and think about actual facts before spouting off about any subject under the sun, but for those who would like to base their opinions on real live data, here are some of our more important offensive stats from 2005-2011. I wish I could put this all in the form of a chart, but I'm limited by the format.

points per game
2005 29.5
2006 33.7
2007 38.6
2008 30.9
2009 24.8
2010 29.7
2011 35.7

first downs rushing passing penalty
2005 118 119 18
2006 129 138 16
2007 153 146 17
2008 122 114 18
2009 100 109 17
2010 132 84 12
2011 164 97 26

attempts per game rushes passes
2005 869 509(59%) 360(41%)
2006 818 450(55) 368(45)
2007 1054 612(58) 442(42)
2008 886 495(56) 391(44)
2009 771 435(56) 336(44)
2010 839 538(64) 301(36)
2011 870 591(68) 279(32)

yardage per game rushing passing
2005 374.1 150.1 224
2006 417.5 165.8 251.7
2007 439.4 214.1 225.3
2008 368.1 166.8 201.3
2009 304.5 122.8 181.8
2010 341.3 185.7 155.6
2011 355.1 202.6 152.5

There are a lot of things one can glean from such information, but the big take-away for me is that, until 2010, our passing and running game were relatively balanced. It is only in 2010 and 2011 that we have skewed so heavily to the running game.

So those who accuse Miles of being one-dimensional in his offensive thinking are ignoring history. The big problem over the past two years has simply been that we have not had a QB that we could trust enough to pass for 40% or more of our plays.

Now, these stats don't say much about the types of passing plays we are running, the number of short, medium, and long plays, etc. But they do confirm what I had suspected, based on my memories of the LSU offense during the first several years of Miles's tenure: we generally run an offense that is more or less 60% rushing and 40% passing, which is a pretty good percentage.

Stats are for losers. Wake up...LSU will always win the games where they can overcome coaching with talent. The proof is in the pudding this year. Les will be out coached more often than not.

Those stats destroy your arguement. Look at the number of plays run by offense 2005-2008. We ran almost 1500 plays in 07' and almost 1300 in 08'. Look at the balance.

We didn't run 1150 plays all year last year. But scoring was up? We're we hitting home runs? Nope. Defense/ST was putting points up and flipping the field. And even as brusing as rushing was still ran 150 less plays. That says alot

I agree that we should look at actual data, which shows a steady decline in offense since 08'

This is a perfect example of stats being misleading. Last year's schedule was much more difficult. Also in 2 SEC games LSU has scored a total of one offensive touchdown. Auburn also had a really bad football team and our offense did almost nothing against them.

Averaging 8 offensive points a game in 2 games of SEC play. That's impressive.

Yeah when we had a decent offense, we had a decent OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR named Jimbo Fisher and 07 was the year after Fisher left. Since then we have been on an offensive decline.

We can talk numbers until the cows come home. For whatever reasons, this is not a very good team. Yes, it's got talent. Yes, they have run up a few points - but over a cupcake or two - excluding Washington.

However, there are so many things that go into making a team function successfully. Team chemistry is not always simple. Suspensions have hurt the team. Injuries have definitely hurt the team. Team mojo can be a delicate thing.

That said, I will support the team as I have almost 45 years. However, my expectations are not what they were at the beginning of the season.

Washington looked pretty much like a cupcake last night vs Oregon.

Thank you for the perspective. That said, I do not think Mett has played badly overall. Every game there are drops that could have been catches.

Winning 80% of games doesn't mean the offense is good right now. It also doesn't mean he will win 80% going forward. I am not as upset as a lot of people about the whole situation. LSU has been hit hard by injuries. I will cut Les some slack. His biggest issue is not having the personnel to execute his power running game. Having an average passing game would help loosen things up. We can't do much well offensively.

LSU's schedule last year is extremely overrated. They played two very good OOC teams, but the SEC was utter trash last year. Arkansas being ranked #3 going into our game with them was largely the result of an utterly pathetic SEC outside of LSU and Bama.

LSU's schedule last season was no better than their schedules in 2003 or 2007 with the quality of teams in the SEC.

Couldn't you ask the question, "why can't a school like LSU with its recent success and media attention, passion, pride, etc. recruit a star quarterback?". It seems as if QBs are reluctant to come here because of the scheme. Read the tweets from all the former players yesterday during the game...they were bashing the play calling and talking about how nothing ever changes...all the talent on the team that is being wasted. I would have to think the negative feedback from former players, parents, etc. Don't help recruit an offensive player to LSU.
