I hate smooth jazz, but I am really warming up to legit jazz and swing. Could you guys recommend some artists/bands that I should check out?

Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Louis Armstrong is all you should really need. Find what songs you like of theirs and use pandora to discover other similar songs. Try out all kinds- swing, smooth, funk- and you'll find your style.

Check out
Ron Miles - Quiver
Dianna Krall if you dont already have her stuff.
Kermit Ruffin is a NOLA guy who is into the NOLA jazz scene.
The Robert Glasper Trio is really good too. Went to HS with him at the performing arts HS in Houston. Hes been legit for a while.
Sophie Milman - In The Moonlight is pretty legit too.

Jimmy Herring Band is jazz fusion.
I like Miles, Coultrane, Armstrong, David Brubeck.
Download the WWOZ app and listen.

Trombone Shorty and Orleans Ave.
More fusion and funk than straight jazz, but their records are great ($2.99 for the most recent on Google Play) and they are legit live.

if you like fusion jazz, go old school and try Mahavishnu Orchestra and Weather Report ..
