Not a fan of cops but seems justified.

I knew the family of this student, very sad incident but the kid was clearly under the influence of something.

quote:

You are assuming that when he realized he was in danger he was merely a step back to safety. I'm not sure how you know this. Like I said, if circumstances allow.

quote:

The officer encountered Collar after there was a loud bang on a west side window of the police station at 1:23 a.m. today. "When an officer exited the station to investigate, he was confronted by a muscular, nude man who was acting erratically,

Based on that quote (which doesn't tell much) it seems like he wasn't that far from the police station. Definitely could have gotten some help.

That quote tells us nothing of his ability to take a step back to safety.

I think you'll agree that the claim he could have taken a step back to safety might have been exaggerated by another poster but he was far from being in a dangerous location (not situation) where he couldn't receive help.

So let me get this straight.

If youre attacked and you had a gun youd turn and run for safety?

I would exhaust all other options before firing into a fricked up college student's chest. That is the issue here, did the officer exhaust all other options and use his firearm as a last resort? From the initial story, it doesn't sound like it...

I love how people who have never been in a similar situation like to judge.

This int the idiot cop who shot a guy who was sitting in a car.

This is exactly why most people laugh when they hear some of these bozos complaining about cops. Never no matter how clear cut the case can some of yall just say hey that dude deserved it.

I'm sorry, but how did you come to the conclusion that he wasn't in a dangerous location where he couldn't receive help?

To the other poster...Yes cops shouldn't be out looking to kill but it's not always as simple as exhausting all other options. I mean it sounds nice on the surface, but ometimes you have to skip other options very quickly. Now I don't know enough about this incident to say one way or the other...but it's not like you always have time to just start exhausting all your options.

Apparently when cops encounter a dangerous person they should run and hide until back up arrives. But then the same complainers will just complain about ten cops arresting one guy.

Either way cops always in the wrong. Well or some people are just idiots.

I don't either. However, what I can gather from the article is this was a University police officer/campus security. It doesn't seem like campus security, who are employed to protect the students, should be shooting students. It's not like this was a dark alley in Prichard, sounds like the kid was super fricked up and went to the "guard shack" to frick with campus security and lost his life over it.

Actually from that article we cannot say that the guy shouldn't have been shot. We don't have any way of knowing.

It doesnt matter if the dead guy was a college student or an armed suspect. The police, or anyone for that matter should never have to flee, or retreat to keep safe. Thats the problem, people should act like human beings and not animals. If police turned and ran away until backup got there everyone would call him a coward. Like i said before, you go out and do stupid shite just keep in mind that death could be the outcome. I feel for the dead dudes family but as for him, push up some tulips from 6 feet below.

Yes it does.

But sometimes it's the wisest move. Police are supposed to defuse situations not instigate them.

quote:

If police turned and ran away until backup got there everyone would call him a coward.

False. Even so I'd rather a cop be called a coward and the kid still be alive. It's not like this kid was some recidivist drain on society.

How in the hell is the cop supposed to know that this naked guy banging on the police station window and instigating an altercation with an armed cop is a student and a "good kid"? If anything, the context of the situation would suggest otherwise.

And I hate cops who abuse power, FWIW.

I mean, what do you think happened? The cop just felt like mowing down a college student who is a "good kid" who just so happens to eat bath salts and assault campus police? Do you know how much crap this cop is ab out to catch that he didn't ask for?

Actions have consequences...even for "good kids" from good families. Sometimes the consequences are severe. Life's unfair that way.

Solution? Don't take actions that increase your probability of getting shot.
