What's the word on this place? I know some have talked about it before, but couldn't find anything searching previous posts.

Worth the drive from BR?

Not worth the drive in my opinion.

Yea. It isn't as good as it used to be, but it's still pretty damn good. Atmosphere is excellent.

Ok, here's the thing. Standing on the merits of it's food alone this place is meh. BUT... you walk into the place and it's suddenly 1975. The paneling on the walls, the ice cold fish bowls of draft, the Falstaff signs on the wall. I think it's a cool experience. It's the kind of place you can go with 6 or 8 friends and camp out for 3 hours and have a blast. Stick to the stright line boiled and fried seafood and you will be fine. Soups are horrible, and the baked stuff isn't much better. As long is this place is standing they can count on one or two visits a year from me.

Have they ever got around to dusting all the animal mounts? It has been 10 years since I have been but the last time I was there they had the same dust that was there from my visits as a kid...

Decent atmosphere but the last few times I've gone the food has been substandard.

I like it. I've been going there for 40 years and yes its not as good as it was when old man Hymel ran the joint. But, its still pretty good boiled and fried seafood. I personally think their fried shrimp are better than any other in our area. JMO. That garlic tarter is pretty damn good too. They're cheap and have good cold draft beer in the large "fish bowl" type mugs. Loud atmosphere. Give it a shot. Not a big investment. I enjoy it.

I agree about the shrimp, however they have the fried shrimp and the jumbo fried shrimp. I always get the jumbo.

I suggest a Friday night or a Sunday afternoon, few ice cold fish bowls and a big platter of boiled crabs. No one does boiled crabs better.

One of those deer is from my camp.

I love me some damn hymels. During hunting season, I can be found there very often...

ETA: And IMO the best thing on the menu is the fried flounder. The lunch there is also usually excellent. Great hamburgers and sandwiches.
