Gun dealer that died and they were selling off all his shite. I knew him and his family well and got a few deals. Some were just boxes that were packed with shite. He was kind of a hoarder and his store was more like a bunker full of stuff. Not very organized, but he knew where stuff was. Proceeds were going to his grandson, so me and some other guys agreed to buy what didn't get sold at auction. They auctioned the guns first and then it started storming so we ended of with all the boxes of accessories and ammo. People got enamored with the guns and forgot about the ammo and accessories.

Before
After
Pigs being Pigs

Just B/C
Big group came but I only got two shots off. Killed 1 for sure and pretty sure I killed the other one. Maybe next time I'll be able find someone to go with me. I almost think I would have been better off just taking my bow.

NOT buckshot. Buckshot is worthless on pigs over 300 pounds even at point blank range. I know this from experience. The buckshot won't make it past the hide and fat.

I prefer any rifle that is accurate enough for head shots on the really big ones.

Most pigs were 60-150...maybe a few over 200.

Still wouldn't try it. Buckshot doesn't penetrate well at all. It'll probably work for small ones, but otherwise I want something with some arse. Buckshot is great on thin-skinned animals, which a pig certainly is not.

Slugs on the other hand would be pretty great. Penetration is always a good thing with pigs.

Refer to picture 3^

I agree with the slug comment. A slug hits like a shite ton of bricks and will give plenty of penetration. Watch how hard it hits this gel.

Big slow bullets seem to do well in my experience.

I'd imagine a fast caliber with a well constructed bullet would be even better, but not many people in south LA keep a stash of elk bullets laying around.

Great pics! I wish I was able to go with you. I'd want to take a stand on the Northeast side of your bait pile. That way I could be sure to get any of the hogs that were headed in the direction of Virginia.

It's a huge hunk of lead.

I think the perfect pig gun doesn't exist. They range far to widely in size.

Buckshot most certainly will enter and kill hogs. Hell I've killed many of hogs with #2 steel shot during duck hunts at ranges up to 25 yrds. At close range (under 10 ft) the wad will be stuck in hole and wound still smoking. If you want more evidence go look up the turkey thread from this spring where nico and i jumped a sounder of hogs in palmettos and wore em out with turkey load.

It surprises me that yall even have many turkeys with all those hogs around. I bet those hogs do a number on turkey nests and eggs.

Thanks for saving me the trouble. I was pretty much going to say the same thing...

We have no turkey here in east texas any longer due to hay farmers, fireants, and hogs. This was NELA and they are supposedly just getting hogs now.
