Man, how can teams like LSU and the rest of the SEC compete on the recruiting trails when this type of crap is allowed by the NCAA?? I'm sure financial incentives are being exchanged under the table somewhere during the recruiting process

Calipari is arguably the dirtiest coach of this generation, but he seems to skate by on deniability. I hope Kentucky pays for getting in bed with the devil.

Only a matter of time... he brought down UMass and Memphis before.

after a few more nat'l championships, Calipari will move on , and Kentucky will be on probation for 6 weeks, and lose a scholarship for a semester.

The devil or world wide wes? Cal is the best at getting away with things that should be illegal. You know something is off when your star player hops into the crowd after winning the national championship and immediately hugs the billionaire CEO of the shoe company he is about to sign with.

Anthony Davis was charging right into the still delirious Kentucky section of the Superdome, where friends and family sit, after the Wildcats’ 67-59 victory over Kansas in the national title game. He was searching for his family. First he found the program’s friends.

He came across William Wesley, the basketball power broker who’s befriended stars from Michael Jordan to LeBron James. The two locked in a long embrace, rocking back and forth in celebration. When Worldwide Wes let go, Davis moved on to Lynn Merritt, Nike Basketball’s senior director and a man of immense influence in the game.

Later in the locker room, Davis and the rest of the Wildcats would hug it out with Phil Knight, the Nike founder and freshly minted Hall of Famer who was wearing the same “No 1 Greater” championship hat they were. Soon Knight and Wes were locked in joy themselves.

He's dirty, EVERYONE knows it...and I love the guy. I wouldn't care if he left LSU and our program got pounded with sanctions, we'd have wins to show for it. And even possibly the BIG win. Maybe you have to vacate it, and maybe Kentucky will eventually vacate this one, but who's going to forget how dominant they were with a bunch of freshmen? Or that Memphis team with Rose and Chris Douglas-Roberts that should have won the title? I'd take him in a heartbeat, and that's no slight on Coach Jones who has been absolutely gangbusters since his hire and has me excited again.

Means nothing if those wins are later vacated.

I vehemently disagree. You can strike the season from the records, but we still remember that screwjob that was the 2004 season and USC's national title. And if UK has to vacate, we still remember their dominance. We remember Reggie Bush's Heisman. We remember Ryan Mallett throwing a pick in the last few minutes against Ohio St. in the Sugar Bowl and tOSU finally breaking through against an SEC team. The point I'm making is that we acknowledge the win and follow it up with a statement like, "...but they had to vacate it because of <insert reason here>."

A win is a win, vacated or otherwise, and kids will still want to play for a program that wins.

Can you blame him? People use what they have to get ahead. As a LSU fan you hate it, as a fan of kentucky you would have to love it.

Seconded. You just cheated to win a bunch of games. It's like a couple of the little league teams I played against that used to spank us. Later we found out that they were playing 14 and 15 year olds in a 12 year old league (Post 502, I think it was). So what if you won? You cheated. Where is the pride in that?

Just a simple waiting game until UK gets hits with the same type of stuff UMass and Memphis did. It's quite obvious he "stretches" the rules a bit too far wherever he goes.

I think you're wrong. People love controversy more than what happens on the court/field, especially in retrospect. At this point, when people think of Bush's Heisman I'd say more remember the scandal than what he did on the field. You're obviously mistaken if you think that more people remember OSU's win over Arkansas rather than the drama that followed it.

If Kentucky gets busted for violations and/or paying Anthony Davis then that will be the story that follows that team, not the championship run. Cal will already be in the NBA at that point though.

A fair point, but you can't separate the result from the scandal. I'm not saying that more people remember the win than the scandal, it's that the two go hand-in-hand. In the case of Kentucky and Anthony Davis, or Marcus Camby, or Derrick Rose, people might remember that scandal might have followed them, but they'll also remember a Final Four run, a championship game, a championship win, and two #1 picks and a #2 pick. And success in the league. The last two parts are especially meaningful to recruits if the current trends in recruiting are to be believed.

Besides, how do the players REALLY suffer? They move on and reap the benefits.
