LSU - A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing?

LSU is still a juggernaut. A sleeping giant (albeit still sleeping), and yes now a wolf in sheep's clothing thanks to the media downplaying (ESPN hates LSU) our team.
Ill start by saying 5-0, ill take it. The defense is still stifling. A few hiccups, but these guys are really really good and only improving with each rep. Now the offense. (Deep Breath)
The only thing that really matters is turnovers. If we dont turn the ball over, the penalties and droppsies would be mostly overlooked though still talked about. Not only turnovers, but bad turnovers. Redzone turnovers/Our end of the field turnovers.
North Texas: 1 Turnover (Redzone INT)
Washington: 1 Turnover (OBJ Fumble Kickoff)
Idaho: 1 Turnover (Redzone INT)
Auburn: 2 Turnovers (Redzone Fumble, Our side of the field fumble)
Towson: 3 Turnovers (3 lost fumbles) hilliards set up a FG, Metts set up a TD, Ford fumbles in redzone.
These turnovers are killers. They cost us from gaining points, cost us by giving up points. You take away the turnovers and LSU steam rolls every team even worse.
Now Im not chalking up the penalties which need to be addressed. Some penalties are debatable some are hussle/aggression, and others are dumb. We have to eliminate presnap penalties and blatant penalties. The drops have to end now too. Our passing attack would be much much better if we just catch the ones we should, nothing more.
So this Wolf in Sheep's clothing is still extremely dangerous and by fixing just the turnovers will be deadly.

2011 - 1st 5 games = 3 Turnovers

They will eliminate the turnovers. It's the o-line I'm worried most about, particularly pass blocking/blitz pickup. If they improve those areas, they'll be almost unbeatable.

My point is, though there is plenty to complain about, none of that would really matter if we took care of the football. The oline, the penalties, the drops, the playcalling, etc, etc. All that can be accounted for if you just dont turn the ball over. LSU can overcome these other mistakes. But the turnovers will result in a loss at some point.

yup, its gonna happen this weekend i believe. florida wants to win more than us.

i disagree. I think LSU is gonna go in the opposite direction. I think they flex their muscles this weekend and dominate Florida.

Simply not as good as last year. Nobody talks about him, but Michael Brockers was a huge loss. Then Mo Claiborne and Mathieu. No one has stepped up to replace Reuben Randle. But the thing we can't overcome is the weakness of the offensive line. Mett was running for his life vs. Towson. Imagine what will happen the next 4 games. Sorry, but not a juggernaut.

Brockers has not really been a big loss. Freak is a stronger pass rusher and a wash with Brockers as a run defender. As CB's I think we are doing well replacing Mathieu and Claiborne...though we do miss Mathieu's ability to cause turnovers. I do agree that RR is a big loss and he would certainly been great to have for Mett to lean on to start the year. He doesn't have a true "go to" guy yet...hopefully one will develop.
I'm not ready to panic over the o-line yet. We have essentially the same guys that were so dominate last year. As far as I can tell, Collins is a wash in replacing Blackwell...especially in pass blocking. Faulk of course is a huge loss, he was probably one of the top 5 LT's in CFB this year. That said, lots of other teams have to make do with guys that are not as good as Faulk. I am hopeful the coaches will figure out the best replacement and the pass protection will improve. As far as I can tell from the film study of all the games so far, the blame for the pass protection is spread out almost equally amongst the line, the backs and Mett.

I won't disagree with anything you have said here.....pretty astute analysis actually, but I see it as optimistic.
Here's what I am thinking....
We expect to see improvement as the season progresses.....the turnovers have gotten worse, the protection from the 0-line really hasn't improved noticably, the penalties haven't improved and I'm having a really hard time finding leaders and/or difference/game changers on either side of the ball.
That's not to say that we can't improve. I believe that we can and will improve, but to expect everything to come together in one week after seeing so little improvement through the first 5 weeks is a pipe dream imo.
FWIW I hope you are correct and we put it together this week in the Swamp. We are gonna need it.

I have a feeling that this weekend will either be the beginning of our resurgence or the start of our decline.
If we win, it sets the tone for next week at home against USCe. It's a night game, so our fans should be pumped. Win that, and we're sitting pretty going into College Station on 10/20.
However, if we lose to UF on Saturday, and the same issues show up again (poor OL play, turnovers, stupid penalties), then we're in trouble. It means either the coaches have no clue how to fix the problems, or that Miles is too stubborn to make the necessary changes. Lose to USCe and the wheels will come off.

The Oline has changed very little. Running the football they are a very strong unit. Passing the ball is a collective piece.

the QB getting rid of the ball
The WR catching every catchable ball.
The pressure has been a result of assignment recognition by each player more so than talent. This is correctable. You cant correct a lack of talent. Mett reminds me of Peyton Manning. Good arm, terrible mobility. However, Peyton is the greatest at recognizing where pressure is coming from and getting rid of the ball. He doesnt extend the play very much, he doesnt roll out. He just loads and fires. Mett needs to release the ball quicker.
