I wonder if they interviewed someone like Bob Christianson. He played fb for a few teams. I remember him driving to the games in a used Honda Civic and was saving all his money because he knew he wouldn't make a million a year for the rest of his life.

I know a guy who played in the NFL for close to 20 years as a deep snapper--you can last a long time doing that, if you're good at it. As a career niche player, he didn't make millions, but his salary was huge by non-sports standards; well into six figures. He didn't want to play that long, but his savings were wiped out by bad investments at the midway point in his career, along with a lot of his teammates. Many of these guys are unsophisticated about money, and get unwise or downright fraudulent advice.

The good news for him is he gets a ~$70000 pension starting at age 55.
