My wife is 9 months pregnant and we are expecting our first child (baby girl) next week. I have to be out of town 3-4 days a week - leave the office or house really early but I am home at night. Needless to say, I had to call in backup (my MIL - she drove in today) because it was affecting my work due to the fact that I really didn't want to be 1-3 hrs away in a plant during the day where cellphones are generally frowned upon.

Long story short, at dinner tonight my MIL is telling me about her new gun that she likes better than her old .25. I asked where it was and she said, "in my purse." I asked if she had a permit and she showed it to me. I asked if it's a concealed carry because she told me she keeps it in her purse wherever she goes - but I really don't need to see it now.

FYI - she has never shot this gun - ever! I know... We will deal with that later - safety course and gun range.

I have not owned a handgun in a very long time - only rifles and shotguns so I do not know the laws. Here are the pics. Is this ok in LA to carry wherever she wants concealed? Any info will be appreciated bc I cautioned her about having an AL drivers license and getting pulled over in LA and announcing, "I've got a gun - it's in my purse - here's my permit."

My wife asked me to start Googling and find out some answers but I told her I knew where to take this question. TIA.

just tell her not to carry while she is there since she doesn't know how to shoot it.

Your second pic answers your question. Says its recognized in La. She's good.... I mean as good as youre going to get while having a gun in your purse that you've never fired.

I just didn't know if "a pistol permit" meant concealed carry. She said she never went to a class - just filled out some paperwork - that's why I was wondering.

Use this map. Click on your state and it will show where your permit is honored.

Thanks y'all. I'll give her the gun back after I know she can shoot it and not hurt anyone or herself - just the intended target.

I needed help and wanted y'all to read it.

She's doing me a huge favor by coming on a few days notice. She wasn't supposed to come until this weekend.

I was unsure about "shall issue" and "may issue." I knew AL had a law that was a little different. Thanks for the info y'all.

I live in Madison County, Alabama as well. My best friend is a LEO in Lake Charles. I'm originally from Sulphur. Your MILs concealed carry from Alabama has reciprocity in La. I carry in La when I'm traveling.I have the same thing.

You want it?

You can have this hell hole. I want to go back to good ole Louisiana or Texas. I can't stand this place.

It's nice, weather wise, but the people are back-stabbing conniving SOBs to say the least. I found out....people from La aren't "southern" as these people consider it. Then I figured out what Southern meant...and I don't want any part of it.

Easy my friend. We all have to live in places we don't like sometimes - just like I am up right now bc my wife is soooo pregnant she can't get comfortable and my little shite arse beagle keeps going grrrrrrrrrrrhhhh (little bastard can't get comfy under the covers) at me. I was lucky and work took me to Miami/Ft. Lauderdale for 2 yrs and I fished every weekend. My MIL has a firearm that she doesn't know how to use...It could be worse though.

Most people in Huntsville arent "Southern" even alot the ones that were born here.

Get out of Madison County and there are plenty of god people and places.

OP - your MILs permit is fine. AL is extremely lax on pistol / CC permits (one and the same). No classes required, jsut go to your local Sheriffs office and hand them your drivers liscense, No Warrent or felonies + $20 = Pistol permit.

No. I don't need friends here. I'm merely here for the money. My FRIENDS all live back in Louisiana.

No doubt the quality of life here is good. Problem is..the people.

So she has a permit, she has been around guns but not shot this gun and you feel the need to take her gun from her? Is she mentally unstable? If so, why is she there to help with the kid, otherwise give her back her gun...
