If we had kept the starting defense in and kept Towson out of the endzone at the end of the game, do we still drop in the poll? I don't think so.

Which leads to the next question: how much experience did those young guys actually get from playing on that one drive?

And then the ultimate question: Who frickin' cares? We're still #4 in the AP poll and #3 in the poll that matters. We have multiple games remaining against top ten SEC teams and if we handle business we'll be right where we need to be.

Beating Towson 38-22 and beating Towson 38-16 aren't really that different, IMO.

I assumed this thread would insinuate that the TD.com meltdown caused the drop in the polls.

I can see your point, but I think it could have mattered. We know that most of the voters don't actually watch the game, they just look at the scoreboard and maybe a couple stats. That last drive put up a good chunk of offensive yds for Towson and pulled the score closer. I really don't care about our drop in the polls, but I think that TD (touchdown for Stagg8) couldn't have helped our cause for the poll voters.

I can understand your reasoning, although I think that voters would likely assess anything other than a completely dominant defensive performance against an inferior opponent (i.e. a 16 or 24-point win) to a certain level of performance when determining whether to move a team up or down in their ranking.

I agree with you on the fact that most voters can't possibly watch every game to determine this, but rather rely on statistics and score. Also, I still think that Towson was a team that we needed to not necessarily beat by a certain amount, but rather hold them under a certain amount of points (Although, it definitely helps to put on the points as well). IMO, once we allowed them to get to 16, that is all that the voters needed to see to justify moving us down on their ranking.

Perhaps you are right. Guess we'll never know. This is definitely one game that I'm sure the coaches, players, administration, and fans would all like to forget about sooner than later. A dominant performance, Hell even a win, on the road against UF will make that happen.

And exactly why would you think I need to be banned? Because I didn't come on here whining about how Les Miles fricks up the offense? Because I didn't say the solution to all our offensive problems are throwing more screens to the RBs? Or was it because I didn't whine about the attendance (or lack thereof) at the game, even though I was there and stayed for all 60 minutes on the clock?

Definitely..we go into the Swamp and win against a top 10 team and people will forget about last night's game.

Why should anyone care about the rankings at this time? As long as LSU takes care of business, we will be where we need to be at the end of the season.

The team that played last night is not a top 5 team in the country. I do believe we will be there come the end of November, but we are not in the conversation right now.

That was the round-about message of my post. Ohio State won the NC in 2002 by winning a lot of ugly games against inferior opponents. They just kept taking care of business week after week.
