My GSD's hip dysplasia has finally gotten to the point of no frisbee/fetch on the ground. Any ponds in the South BR/Prairieville area that are dog friendly?

Just get him to bust the dam. The flood should give his pooch some swimming room.

I'm sure the dog would like to get a little wet at least.

Just go to a subdivision pond. They may chase you off eventually. But it should take a while.

Try Brec website. They may list some dog friendly parks.

Be very careful with dogs and ponds. Check closely for gators.

I've brought mine here a few times. Good spot. What about the LSU lakes?

I don't know the details on your dog but if there is a chance its back legs may go out you don't want that to happen while in the water. A dog with no power/use of back legs will sink like a rock. When the back legs quit kicking the arse end goes down and soon after the dog will go under. Watch close!!

Should be fine, but there's lots of people around there. If your dog is cool with that than it should be ok.

Stay away from LSU lakes. I waded out there once and kicked several concrete blocks with rebar sticking out of them. Never brought my lab back after that.

The brec soccer fields have that larger lake as well as the fenced in retriever park. I'd go right after day light and use the entire lake to work bc no one was ever there. Its just long enough to test your dog's boundaries. I got mine to swim the length of it on blinds last year and she after 3 she was wore out.

Yeah, I'm thinking about chest deep so the water will support her weight but she can still walk on the bottom would be ideal.

Thanks for the good suggestion, I'm not too concerned with them going out, its just getting to the point that after frisbee a few days ago and he's still limping. Got some xrays today and it's not to the point of surgery, although it will some day. But the vet recommended no more fetch, and that's pretty much the one thing he lives for. We have a life jacket for him that we use it if we find a pond for him, thanks.

I think there are some flotation devices for disabled dogs. Do some research. The swimming will be very good therapy for the dog.

Good to hear you have made plans for your friend. Life jacket should help bunches.

I used a lifejacket from cabellas on my boy when he was rehabbing a stress fracture. I would hold the handle on top and steer him around a pool. It worked and he even learned to love swimming. He was afraid of the pool at first
