It appears that the marriage between Ellis, Smith, Harper, and possibly Vilma and Henderson may end this year. Would we have the cap space to sign Clif Avril from Detroit and Robert Geathers (Uncle played with us in the late 80's) and possibly Mike Wallace from the Steelers?

ellis could be back....I don't see much of a market for him.

Maybe if he plays for way less $

He is awful stopping the run. Sometimes I feel like were wasting reps on him that some of the younger guys could get

Glenn Dorsey is a free agent remember the Saints want him or Ellis on draft day

Yeah, I don't see many people seeking Ellis' services unless the defensive line makes a huge turn around. He is a first round draft pick which will probably make some team want to take a chance on him with a one year contract. (The same way some on here will want to take a chance on Dorsey)

-more realistic would be to expect one impact UFA that could be signed.

Love'em or hate'em, with Smith and Harper you will need to have a viable replacements before just sending them packing.

Even though the results aren't what we hoped for so far I think it was one of the better offseasons by Loomis.

We haven't drafted sooner than #24 in four years. If it ends up mid 1st or lower that is a lot of difference in what degree of impact player you can find. That is, many later round 1st picks take some time and need development. Mid and lower you can peg some surefire day one high impact starters.

Yeah, I was just thinking through the keyboard. I was really impressed with Seattle's speed on defense and was hoping maybe we could get some guys athletic like that. Hopefully our guys develop or we bring in some good players.

I'm still not throwing this season away, cause I think we will beat Green Bay this weekend, but this was just a thought going forward.

We aren't getting Mike Wallace. However, I do agree we need to start going for quality in free agency. Granted, Bunkley, Lofton, and Hawthorne aren't exactly small name signings.

Dorsey is one of the best run stopping 3-4 defensive ends in the league. Plus he's playing out of position.

Dorsey>>>Ellis
