Deer Head Shots

Hoping to get my first deer this year and I had a question after watching canthuntenough's video (awesome by the way). I know it can be a pretty hotly debated subject sometimes but what are yall's thoughts on head shots as opposed to going for the vitals. If you miss you've just maimed the deer but if you don't there's no tracking.
Ever done it? Does it depend on the situation?

I've done it, but they've all dropped in their tracks.

Enlightening as always Chad.

If you're a good enough shot and have lots of opportunities then I really dont see a problem with it. Id never do it though

I've never tried it. Always just shot for vitals

Definately not advisable, but I've done it on a few...There are some negative things about it...Had one flop for half an hour jumping off the ground about 5 feet at a time and while cleaning her, the meat was actually quivering in my hand....4 wheeler ride back with her strapped down yielded me looking like I had been fatally wounded as well....Most have dropped like a rock, a few others have done the death dance and meat quiver on occasion....Its a chance you take and you have to be sure and decently close....Usually do it when shooting straight down at a doe or if her head is turned just right down on the ground feeding...You have to know where your round will be at a chip shot, if you are sighted in 2" high at 100...If you are comfortable with your skill level and know you can make the shot...Its chancey, but doable...I find it overrated and haven't done it in years...I prefer the double lung and be done with it...doesn't mess any meat up and don't have to deal with a zombie deer all the way back to the skinning shed...Just my opinion...

I only shoot does in the head. I don't want to waste time on them.

I did it with my .204 until I found out it was illegal...............

I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

Only time Ive ever done it was on a doe that needed finishing off.

An acquaintance (and fellow OB poster) of mine shot a doe in the head with a 1911 a couple years ago out of a tree climber.

Ill shoot a doe in the head to finish em off. Otherwise they all go behind or in the shoulder
