but suddenly Rick finds the prison on accident after a short walk in the woods?
Hershel grows a beard. Carl has long hair. TDog still freshly shaved and Sophia's mom hasn't needed a haircut in almost a year??
Where is Hershel gonna get these seeds for a garden?
In 7 months, how are they not out of gas?
All of these I can get behind, except the first one. I mean, who's to say TDog hasn't found some razors and shaving cream and Carol hasn't gotten Lori to cut her hair as bad as possible?
They also had a fancy new truck and a bunch of fun zombie-stabbing weapons so presumably they have had an okay go of it scavenging but wanted to quit with the scavenging and find a more permanent location.
So... if they have been scavenging the whole time, how the frick are they right by the prison again? They should have picked that area clean long ago and found the prison months earlier. Unless it's a different prison, which just makes it dumb to show it last season.
Oh well, I don't let things like that ruin the enjoyment.

Loved the episode. Loved the silent opening. Love the development of the characters as Baloo mentioned earlier.
My only complaint, is it a joke in Hollywood circles that they have all these pistol shots from epic distances? I lol'd when Carl was on the guard tower picking off zombies with that pistol. Just ridiculous and so unnecessary.

They had a map with circles showing the big hoards. I think they've tried to leave, but keep getting blocked in.

I'm just going to mention this here since nobody else has...
At the beginning, I'm pretty sure they showed the Zombies sleeping and then they were "woke". Not like when food is by and they can smell it. They seem to be narcoleptic to some degree and sound or smell will rouse them.

I still loved that opening scene so much. Really showed what kind of world it was now. They cleared the house, settled, only to look out the window and see zombies coming for them.
And when they drove away and there were a dozen zombies coming after them? Awesome!

They explained that at the beginning of the episode with the map scene. They have tried moving in different directions but are restricted in their movements by these two large zombie hordes that are in the area. They said they have basically been moving in circles all winter, which would explain why they are back near the prison.
And for the poster who thought Rick and Co. saw the prison at the end of last season, they did not. They were close to it where they camped but we only saw it because the camera moved up and across the countryside between them and the prison.

I don't think they would have attempted to take the prison at the end of season 2. The group is just so much different now.

I always took the season 2 ending with the prison as more of foreshadowing, not necessarily that they were really close to it

Somehow I missed this scene, but it's good information.
Looks like they were able to get some good ammo and supplies when they found the flash-bangs, etc.
There was a line in that scene that may be a little foreshadowing when Rick said "I don't know how these will work against the walkers, but we'll take 'em."

What about Merle's hand?

Yeah. Haven't seen Season 2 finale since its original airing, and my recollection is they were looking up at the prison at the end. Now it is ~ 6 months later and just entering the compound?
In the finale, the camera just pans up and shows the prison...the characters definitely don't see it. But it is definitely odd that they are just now finding it, especially considering that they seemed to have been scouting all over the place all winter and marking the map. But I just tried not to let it bother me.

Looks like the spoilers have quieted a bit, so here are my thoughts on the episode.
I watched the second half of season 2 yesterday and noticed the same thing. Specifically, the farm scene when they are driving around capping walkers left and right from moving vehicles. They specifically zoom in on Glenn shooting the shotgun and the barrel of the gun jumping around by two feet, but then show headshot after headshot.
Also, I understand that the shooting is for entertainment, but I do wish they'd keep it at least semi-realistic. They always say they're running low on ammo, but then it's unlimited a little while later. Happened last season with target shooting and then the "emptying the barn" scene. And happened again last night with the "clearing the prison" scene. It's still entertaining watching them be smart and realistic and taking out the walkers hand-to-hand style. And if it starts dragging too much, just montage that shite up.
Agreed on the opening scene. Good stuff, and a great way to show us that some time has passed and they are all more accustomed to the lifestyle and much more efficient at what they do.
Also good to see Darryl be a little more human. Carol sucks, but at least it seems like D is getting him some.
I like the little cell block they found. It's perfect size, has a second floor just in case. And also windows as a last resort if you have to bail. Also, the prison allows you to lock/secure a door/exit and be confident that it won't falter (like a crappy barbed wire fence, for example).
Lori still sucks. frick her.
I'm wondering if cutting off Hersh's leg is really gonna save him. And if he dies from blood loss then it wasn't worth it anyway.
I'm hoping that Carl growing up a bit will make me hate him less, but we'll see.
I haven't read the thread, but when they were talking about digging the stream up under the fence for access to fresh water, I figured this place was going nuts about a moat..

He told the group that they were going to assault the interior of the prison in the morning. Lori didn't think it wise seeing as they had just took the courtyard and deserved a break.

All he said was rest up so they could go in the prison the next day. She got all pissed off because she wanted to savor a victory for a few days and be a sitting duck in an open field.
She's goes from zero to count in the flip of a switch over the most ridiculous shite.

At least she [finally] has an excuse early on in season three. I mean...she is pregnant.

It's tough for me to give her a pass based on how terrible she was before she was this pregnant.

in the farm scene, you also had Hershel firing around 20 shots with his pump action shotgun without reloading

My moat idea was sent into the producer after season 1. It seems they like it.
