Here's the last part. Check out the link for the whole thing.

quote:

Auburn showed that LSU does have issues, like the fill-in for the injured left tackle, but this near-miss wasn't as alarming for the visitors as what happened to Alabama at home in Tuscaloosa on Oct. 24, 2009.

LSU did outgain Auburn 351-183. Alabama was outgained by Tennessee 341-256 in 2009.

The admittedly shaky-at-times Mettenberger was 15 of 27 for 169 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions, and he lost a fumble on a sack, which gave Auburn a short field for its only touchdown drive.

Alabama's first-year starter at quarterback in 2009, Greg McElroy, went 18 for 29 for 120 yards with no scores and no picks against Lane Kiffin's one-and-only Tennessee team. McElroy struggled that season for much of the month of October but matured to lead a game-winning drive at Auburn and outplay Tim Tebow in the SEC Championship Game.

That Alabama team didn't score a touchdown and put up a season-low 123 rushing yards against Tennessee. The Tide needed four field goals from Leigh Tiffin and three missed field goals from the Vols - including Cody's two swats - to survive.

That was the story of that day. Alabama did survive, and after its worst game of the season, the Crimson Tide grew up to become the best team in the country.

LSU has a chance to continue along that same path until Alabama comes calling Nov. 3. Mettenberger should get better, and the trip to Auburn should help him be more prepared for the trip to Gainesville in two weeks.

Running the ball and stopping the run remain the building blocks of a championship team, and LSU remains superior in both places. The LSU running game didn't dominate at Auburn, but it did roll up almost 200 yards, and the LSU defense allowed Auburn to cross midfield only twice.

If you look closely, minus the game-changing ability of Tyrann Mathieu, this year's LSU team doesn't look all that much different from last year's team, the one that won the SEC title and played for the BCS championship.

As Saban said three years ago, every season is fragile. Despite its issues at Auburn, this LSU team isn't.

Hey, I don't read the Rant for logic. I don't read it for the sick cartoons below this either.

Good read all around. Thanks for posting. I think we will be fine this year. Our team is overall pretty young but we keep plugging new guys in and that speaks well of both recruiting and coaching.

I'm pumped for the remainder of the season!

If some LSU fans think the near loss to Auburn was bad just think about Arkansas.

I agree with writer...we just need to let the season playout...plus Montgomery took a stand on the D. would really be great if someone did the same on offense

In all honesty, Auburn was a great first road game to get under our belt. With the history of close battles in the hostile JHS environment, I can't honestly say that the result baffled me. I hate to use the term "wake up call," because it's so cliche, but that is how I look at this game.

No going back now; we got the win, albeit an ugly one, and we are 4-0. We know that we have things to fix and we have a couple weeks to work on those things before another tough road test. Hopefully we can make some adjustments and take it to the Gators in the swamp.

The issues have been discussed greatly, one game doesn't define our play, it's the long term trend.

Does the writer still have more sense?

i think it is the best thing that happened to us. The media is blasting us as well some of it is deserved because Auburn really sucked but I think that Florida will get physically handled. I'm imagining a scenario after the game similar to the 2010 meeting when Miles said "well they didnt really like us at 5-0 and now we are 6-0 and I hope they like us a little better."..that was my favorite Miles soundbite. Anyways cheers Brewhan

He makes sense, but some fans will never be happy until Les is gone. They have made up there feeble minds not to enjoy the last decade of winning and can't remember when LSU was happy to play in Shreveport.
