i actually hated that they brought Quinn back because i knew they were going to do that. Theres a lot of little things that they did in this episode that seemed like they were trying to minimize the impact of Barney and Quinns relationship and act like it was doomed from the beggining, when in fact it made a ton more sense than Barney/Robin and even still the relationship was important to Barney growing up and maturing (until they decided to back track on all that and break them up, but i digress) I pretty much hated this episode besides the clown turning into the real Karate kid.
Im really tired of the lazy "Oh well come up with the most ridiculous premise ever and then just come up with any half arse way to reveal at the end it was all a rouse that everyone was involved with,
its like "The Robin" which was a cool way to get them engaged despite my feelings about them getting engaged...but its also completely ridiculous and a little lazy just to go "oh haha everything that has happened over the past year was somehow planned by Barney!! Gotcha!"
Episode premise couldve been amazing...instead we got 30 seconds of amazing (and a little eye candy from Quinn), 10 minutes of Lilly doing her little sex freak act (which is so unfunny to me but they do it all the damn time) and a lazy rehashed plot device

I agree that they could have done a little more for Barney's bachelor party, but then ending was still pretty good

Just watched it on the DVR and I found this episode very unfunny, predictable, and all filler.
At least with some of the average to weak episodes this season, they've revealed something at the end, even a little something, to keep the viewer hooked. This episode didn't progress a thing and the only entertaining part was the finale with the real karate kid.
This episode engrained what previous posters touched on regarding the writers knowing they have their core audience hooked and will watch whatever they produce.
I'll probably get called an idiot for taking this too seriously, but I'm just flat out disappointed seeing this show take its steady decline over the years only to build up the main premise of the show and waste more time.

Why do people keep mentioning stuff about the plot moving forward?
It's a sitcom.
The plot doesn't realy go anywhere in most sitcoms exept the first, last and maybe second to last episode every season.
All sitcom episodes are filler.
How many episodes of Big Bang Theory, or some other show "move the plot forward" every season.
Yes this show is set up a little different than most other shows, but the only reason you know it's moving somewhere at all is that they tell you the future.
Yes we know that we are going to meet the mother eventually, but it's still a sitocm.
They just found a clever, origional way to hook their audience.

The premise of this show had an overall story arc, the mother. The first few years seemed to be moving forward but the past couple years have seemed to stall and be in the same place.
Other sitcoms don't bother having story arcs. If Big Bang Theory had come onto the air with the premise of the characters doing something remarkable and it was the story leading to it, yes, I would expect the story to progress towards it.

Go back and rewatch the show.
The first season, he tries all year to date Robin, who he tells us in the pilot episode is NOT the mother.
The whole second season is about him dating Robin.(see my coment about first season)
Season three Ted tries to one-up Robin (not the mother BTW) then meets Stella, who we find out pretty soon is not the mother, because she already has a child, and would know how they met.
The whole show is realy nothing but trickery.
That said, it is still my favorite show on the air, even though it isn't what it used to be before season 6.

The thing is, we already know when he meets the mother and that he doesn't date anyone until then. So they pretty much have to be all filler until the wedding

I did like the episode, but there was one part that really bothered me. Robin gave Barney the $5,000 for their caterer (or whatever the hell wedding reservation thing it was), with the knowledge that he would end up gambling with it. Yet instead of being pissed, she encouraged it and wanted it to happen, even setting things up for him to do so. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like most women would be like "hey dipshit, that's our wedding money and you just gambled it. What the hell is wrong with you!?" yet instead it was just like "oh that's my barney, I figured that'd happen anyway".
I mean, what if Barney was actually a good, standup man/fiancee and said "sorry guys, this money is for my wedding" would she have been pissed that her perfect plan didn't work?

Well an even bigger problem with that is that it has been shown a billion times that Barney is fricking loaded. 5k is chump change to him. He wouldnt of cared that he lost that

I thought the whole setup was that he never really lost the money...she went to the casino beforehand and the games were rigged for him to lose. No way that would actually hold up legally that they took his $5,000 on rigged games. I thought it seemed obvious that the whole thing was fake/a ruse to get him to claim Marshall as collateral and then him be kidnapped, etc.
In reality, the $5K was never lost because it was never truly gambled.
