That was the most surprising episode of How I Met Your Mother because of that last scene. Like you said, they made you care again.
I need to rewatch it, but the more I think about it, the more I like what they did last night.

Just dont give me a filler episode with a bs ending trying to make it seem like something actually happened to move the plot forward when in fact literally nothing actually happened in the episode.
But it wasn't a BS ending. For me, the ending is what made me like the episode. Like I said, it brought everything together...it made the "future selves" make sense, and it showed us that in Ted's mind he's thinking against his usual patterns (like choosing to NOT go after the coat check girl, to NOT go to Robin and Barney's or to Marshall and Lily's place).
The end of the episode showed us that he's finally ready to meet his wife (and finally ready to tell his kids about it, which is the whole premise of the show). The end brought everything in the episode together full-circle and showed us that it's time for Ted to finally move onto that next stage in his life. There's a difference between looking for a wife and being ready to meet her. That's what this episode basically showed us IMO.

However, the last five minutes of this episode made me, for the first time since Season 1, made me care who the Mother is.

Exactly...it finally put you right there with Ted. We've been ready for so long to see the mother, and now Ted is just about on that same page within the context of the show.

I'm kinda feeling the same way about it.

And to those that keep saying shite about "filler episode"...its a sitcom, not a Shakespearean production or something. Every episode is supposed to be just that, a situational comedy.
This isn't Lost or some other grandiose or convoluted plotted drama.
exacccccctly.
why people try to find hidden meanings in this show I will never get.

I liked the episode, even though it was pretty weird. I agree with WS that the whole 20 years/20 minutes future Barney and Ted thing was done really well...I was thinking that the whole time, how well it was shot and how good it looked. I was glad it all ended up being in Ted's head though, because that made the future 'selves make sense.
Yea the future Barney/Teds were exceptionally well-done and brillianty written.

Would it be a spoiler to name a particular actor and actress that have been cast for the season finale? And the scene they are in?
(Hint: it doesn't appear to be the mother or the wedding scene...and it APPEARS to be a minor scene, but I don't want to give anything at all away if people are that touchy about apparently minor spoilers)

Da end of tha episode flossed our asses dat he be straight finally locked n loaded ta hook up his hoe (and finally locked n loaded ta tell his frickin lil playas bout it, which is tha whole premise of tha show). I am a week late and just watched last Monday's episode.
I have a serious question that I am not sure if its been put out there so here goes. Is Ted's wife dead?
I came to the conclusion last night after watching the episode. Ted explains to his kids that they know where he would go if he had the day to do all over again. His desire to spend every possible second with her and the emotion behind it leads me to believe that he his telling this story to his kids after her death.
Also, when he is talking to the Mother at the door, he says that they have kids together and that he will love her until the end of his days. Not that they will grow old together and lead a long happy life, just that they fall madly in love.
I know its out there but I feel like it is in the realm of possibilities.

That makes me feel better because I tend to read too much into these type of things.

bump for the new episode tonight.
I just caught up on the previous five episodes and although this season is infinitely better than last (which was almost unwatchable), this season still features some awful episodes. It just seems like the writers have been going back to the first five seasons and are trying to replicate exact story lines and subjects. Just way too many contradictions too.
Also, they are really out of control with the laugh box. After any character says something, there is immediately laughter, often just two or three laughs. Most of the time, it is not even remotely funny. Its like they are trying to push laughs on the viewer.
I am interested to see how they close out this season though. What I really hope, is that they have been filming scenes with the mother throughout the entire series and they do flashbacks to previous years where her and Ted have crossed paths.

I don't know if they'll be showing this episode tonight (or any regularly scheduled TV) after the Boston explosions. We'll see.
