Why isn't Akiem Hicks playing more?

The only time I saw him in the game yesterday he completely blew up the line and was in Newton's shite almost immediately and disrupted the play. I'm sure he had more reps than that one play but I must of not seen him out there.

Although still raw, he seems like he could be a game changer up front. Why is he not playing more?

Its kind of been the Saints MO. They usually have rookies come along slowly and they get significantly more playing time later in the season. Happened with Graham, among others, as far as I can remember.

I think he will see more and more playing time as the season goes on.

It drives me nuts. Especially right now when they should be exhausting all possibilities on defense.

I mean Hicks has been tearing shite up every chance he has had so far right? Or am I just hallucinating?

The same can be said about Tez also. The dude has been a nightmare on special teams so far.

especially when Sed Ellis ends up 5 yards backwards in the endzone on a power rushing play

did anyone else see his fat arse get blown off the line on one of those short TD's?

I was gonna add this statement to my response to Fun Bunch. We've made a living doing this with late picks and undrafted players on offense... but noooooo god forbid we do this on defense.

yeah, it was awful. He played pretty good against Washington stopping the run but yesterday he looked pretty bad. I guess he has no interest in his future. This is his contract year, you'd think he would do more. I've always tried to knight for this guy but I'm clearly out of my mind

Edit: I would love to see Hicks get more playing time. His effort certainly looked better than some of the other vets out there yesterday.

I kind of don't get why we just continually suck at drafting Defense.

We have drafted tons of high round guys on D that were thought of to be very good prospects: Sed Ellis, Patrick Robinson, Malcolm Jenkins, Cam Jordan, etc.

And we have nothing to show for it. I'm really at a loss.

bench Ellis for Hicks and Smith for Tez. Jordan is playing lights out and Bunkley is solid as well. They need to capitalize on this and bench the 2 lazy fat assholes.

I remember how Sedrick Ellis dominated during Senior Bowl week over here a few years back. He was one of the most talked about players that week. While he hasn't been a bust like Jonathon Sullivan, it just seems like he has turned it off since 2010.

I think Cam Jordan has done pretty well so far this year though. At least he got a damn sack yesterday. And as far as stopping the run, he has done the best job so far from the guys up front.

You gotta wonder with the new CBA rules how much that effects guys like Hicks. I mean how can he get the coaches attention with fewer padded practices? It was nice to see him get some playing time though.

He ended up with the highest grade on the team in pass rushing according to PFF's metrics. He needs to see more snaps next game (had 20 last game). Of those 20 snaps, only 6 were passes and he managed to get a hurry and a hit on Newton. I don't think anyone could have predicted that he would be this good, this soon.

Raw or not, we need Hicks right now. His ability to blow up the line can have a domino effect on the entire D and maybe start getting things turned around.

Exactly my point. There will never be a better time than right now.

I have a feeling his snaps are going to go way up against KC.
