Posted by tomcatrav on 9/16/12 at 9:04 pm00

Got some coyotes roaming the property and wanna go after em.
I've never tried hunting them.
How should I set up?

Thanks for any help.

We always hunt them with an electronic call and no bait.
A regular old school call works as well obviously.
Set up somewhere in the woods, call for a few minutes and see what happens. If they're gonna come, they usually show up within the first 10 minutes.

just set up a deer stand and start picking the bastards off....you could try one of those squealing rabbit decoys, but i doubt it's necessary

I've always hunted with a "cottontail" distress tape, or deer carcuses in the late season. Biggest thing here is visability. Need to be able to see fairly clear areas on your downwind side, as they are smart and will circle/approach from there.

Depending on what kinda area you'll be in (field vs woods) but like posted before, make sure you can see well on your down wind side. I've used the buckets of chicken livers and slung them out to mask my scent and put the blood smell out there. Used a rabbit squeler call and noticed one would make multiple quick passes before as many as 8 would come out

When I was living at my parents house they had 6 or 7 that would come around screaming at night. It was during duck season so I shot some ducks and when I cleaned them just put all the heads, wings, and feet in a ice chest and set it in the back. There were no trees back there for a stand, just thicket. I got my .22 and set up on the top of my parents garage. Late in the evening the group came and started eating on the duck remains. I picked one off with a head shot and the rest scattered. Haven't been around since.

I used to put an electronic call amongst some hay bales. Sat in the barn in the loft and picked them off at about 50-70 yards with a .223. Great times.

Buy cheap sponges, soak in used cooking grease, throw them in the field. You can sit and wait to shoot them or they will choke on the sponges.
