I know we have tons of young talent (particularly in the defensive backfield and at linebacker) but we have lost a lot in the past 4 - 6 weeks. Mathieu, to Faulk, to the four academic ineligible announcements, etc, etc.

I am a bit concerned that we are going to be heavily reliant on a very young team (in key positions) heading into SEC play. Sure we have a senior laden offensive line, but the depth is starting to thin and those there to spell the ones are inexperienced. Same for the linebackers and secondary...Loston is an injury waiting to happen and there are A LOT of true and redshirt freshmen in our two deep rotation both at linebacker and in the secondary.

Do I think the sky is falling? Of course not. However, I am a bit concerned that this lack of experience in harsh environments on the road and in 4th quarters of key games, could lead to blown assignments on the O-Line, coverage by our linebackers or secondary, etc. Mett can't take a pounding in SEC play like he did against North Texas because someone misses a blocking assignment and we are all naive to think that the Jalen boys (as talented as they both are) won't miss some assignments along the way that could go for big gains.

Thoughts?

Little to none, given that 1) We're winning HANDILY, and 2) Our schedule sets up perfectly for our young players to get in rhythm.

There normally would be concern, but the teams we play away in the sec this year look like garbage.

State and Bama may be our toughest challenges.

Not worried so much. Much more worried about injuries. Losing Faulk is a big deal IMHO.

JD medical redshirt really will soften this blow. Several people on this board have always suggested that LT is his more natural position given his body type.

I think these are legit concerns and you laid them out very well. Like you say "the sky isn't falling" but it will be interesting to see how it all falls out. Hopefully we are over the worst part of these personell losses and our youngsters will get better every day.
