An impulse purchase paid off big time for a Chatham resident and New Orleans Saints fan when he won a $100,000 top prize on a scratch-off ticket.
To celebrate the first game of the Saints' 2012 season, Richard Pardue bought a Louisiana Lottery "I Love My Saints" scratch-off game on a whim.
"It was the first Saints game of the season and I was getting Natty Ice and dip, so I thought 'Why not?'" Pardue recalled. He bought the ticket Sunday, the same day the Saints kicked off their season against the Washington Redskins.
Pardue said he was shocked when he arrived at the Lottery's Monroe office Monday to claim his prize.
"When I saw how much I won, no more food stamps I thought," Pardue said.
The 29-year-old Chatham resident purchased the top-prize winning ticket from Chatham U-Pak-It on Louisiana 34. Pardue said he planned to use the winnings to pay off his house and buy a real nice four wheeler.
