For all the fans freaking out about the lack of vertical passing game against North Texas...consider this.

Mett was 19 of 26 for 192 (with one TD called back)
Mccarron was 11 of 21 for 199

Like Herm said - "You play to win the game"

Anyway....that being said I do think we need to diversify our passing attack by the time we meet Bama coz Saban's going to have a field day with those screens

I think Bama and LSU fans know what McCarron can do. I don't think any of us know for sure what Mett will do in game situations yet.

If every LSU fan was honest with themselves they would agree they want to see LSU open it up and see what the passing game could look like under Mett.

Why say this and then throw a stat out that has nothing to do with a vertical passing game? Most of Mett's 26 passes were sideways. I was okay with it, but if you are gonna make a point, make a point.

McCarron threw for more yards with half as many completions. That is what everyone is frustrated by. You made no point what so ever.

I agree. Except for the 05 UT game Miles has never blown a big lead in order to do that you have to RUN the BALL you can't throw every frickin play!! Yes we could have thrown the ball more and we will.
MILES knows we have to thrown the ball more in big games.

I taped the game and watched it again to count the sideways passes. Through 3 quarters (my DVR didn't record the 4th qtr) Mett threw 12 sideways passes, and that's not counting slants and short passes to the tight end. Sure, Mett's numbers looked good, but at least half of his passes, and probably 2/3 of his completions, were horizontal. Spin it how you want, but his first game wasn't too impressive, and a decent part of that was the conservative play calling.

Mett isn't responsible for the game planning or the design of the play. It was frustrating for a fan base wanting to see something dynamic from the QB position, but don't blame Mett.

With a 59 yard TD pass.

Mett had his 36 yard pass.

They're about the same now.

You want to criticize the playcalling because they were running up NT's arse the whole night, then criticize Alabama's playcalling as well for running up Michgan's arse all night.

Don't criticize one time while you're complementing another for doing the same thing.

Mett avg 10yds a completion while McCarron avg was 18 yds a completion. That is a fact. I'm not upset with Mett at all. I want to see this team be dynamic on offense because at some point we will have to. These games against crap teams are the time and place to practice this stuff. We weren't going to lose to N.Texas no matter what.
