If I had to pick from those three it would probably be the Savage. I would have picked the Remington hands down had you replaced that second 7 with a 0. A Remington 700 is .243 can be a very accurate rifle if you do the right things.

Of the original choices,
OTOH, I wouldn't have a problem w/ a youth model Rem 700 either. Don't have any personal experience w/ the Browning Micro Hunter, but Browning's are generally good gun.
As already mentioned, a good recoil pad is very important. Remove some of the butt of the stock if needed to get a better fit of the gun to the shooter. If he later outgrows the stock, get a new one.
Caliber selection is a big can of worms. I realize a gazillion deer have been killed through the years by youngsters (and adults, asa well)using 223's and 243's, but I personally recommend a regular deer hunting caliber in a short action (e.g. 260 Rem, 7-08, 308 Win),although using reduced recoil/low recoil rounds. Using such rounds, the recoil of a 308 Win will approximate that of a 243. One can also use a long action caliber, e.g. 270 Win or 30-06, but there'll be more recoil compared to a short action; a 30-06 burns more powder to obtain the same velocity of a 308 Win.
Enjoy the time afield w/ your son. Hopefully you'll create lifelong good memories.

Bought my son the Browning X-Bolt Microhunter 7mm-08 several hears back when he was a youth hunter. He was shooting my old .243 before that. Ballistics and recoil were both better in the 7mm-08. He is 6'1 now in High School and still shoots it with comfort - I even use it when he is not at the camp. Great gun for youth and can also be used as they grow. Have never lost a deer with it either.

I'm with Downshift on this one.
700 with a youth stock in 7mm-08 will last a lifetime and it can be made extremely, and I do mean EXTREMELY accurate.
Don't get a 770.
Seven is great though.

You felt the new 700 triggers?
They're freaking amazing and externally adjustable.

Get a weatherby or remington
don't buy it in .243, get him a 7mm-08.
my 8 year old shoots a Marlin XS7Y in 7mm-08

Are you set on the caliber as well?

Thought we all agreed Downshift just hunts with retards that can't shoot to save their lives once they see a real live deer?

I was pleasantly surprised the first time I felt one. Hard to explain it. It's got a very crisp break and was pretty much perfect right out the box.

that pretty much describes the accutrigger
i heard marlin is actually working on or is finished and now manufacturing rifles with their own form of adjustable weight triggers

Bump rather than start new thread. Anyone had experience with Howas? I have read some decent reviews considering the price. Looking at a 7mm-08 for Mrs Cove and/or the kids.

Don't they make high end custom stuff?

They do both, I believe. What I was looking at was a 1500, which is supposed to be the same as a Weatherby Vanguard. I'm not going to hire Kenny Jarrett to build my wife a rifle to take out twice a season.

cades, i was shown one yesterday while shopping around, and was told by the dealer that it was the same as a weatherby or that they have something to do with making a weatherby... i would like some info on this too if anyone has any personal experience/insight...
