A few weeks ago there was a long thread predicting the best "surprise" player for 2012.
In fairness, OBJ got quite a few call outs and there were some unusual names floated about, including some true Freshmen (Debo, Feist, etc.).
I confess to a stupid choice, more out of hope , than anything else: I thought Loston would put his injuries behind him and play to his press clippings. Appears I was WAY wrong.
Any new bets?

Yep, sorry.
Btw, Rascoe might not be a bad dark horse candidate for break out "surprise" player.
He played pretty well.

Said this in another thread, but I pick Ego Ferguson. A year ago the word was he was soft. I thought he showed up a few times in limited action. He is a big dude and we need some bulk in the middle.

This

It's way early, but he could be one we remember for years to come. Everybody gripes about us not getting many elite LB's. He has the potential to be one.

Jones, deff. He'll be starting by SEC play.

Boone will surprise people too.

how? he backs up Barrow, who was all over the place and led the team in tackles.

don't get me wrong, there's spots where Debo can be effective and he'll def get snaps. but I don't see him jumping Barrow just yet.

Nah. I just rewatched the game. He had that one big play and did well on special teams, but he made several mistakes in his limited time on defense. Barrow and Muncie will most likely remain starters, they played well though.

Kwon Alexander probably played the best out of the true freshman, he did pretty well dropping in coverage and attacking the run. He made the least amount of mistakes out there. Lorenzo Phillips and Ronnie Feist also did well at attacking the line of scrimmage and fighting off offensive linemen.
