Looking to Buy a Budget Gaming PC
Posted by Charleaux on 9/4/12 at 1:19 pm00
As a student I've been using a laptop for the last several years and I'm now looking into buying a desktop to be able to play a few modern games, mostly D3/Tochlight 2 type games. I obviously do not need a super powerful computer to play those which is good since I only have a $500-700 budget.
From other threads like this it seems like many people choose to save money by ordering seperate parts from webistes like newegg. However, from the little bit of research I've done online, it seems like I could pay less by getting a computer bundle (tower, monitor, and keyboard since I own none of those) at beat buy or sam's and just buy a graphics card on the side. Would you guys recommend something like that?

But if I am not playing games that require a heavy gaming build, do I really need many options?
I found a couple of i3 or i5 desktop deals going for about $600 (with monitor) which, what I understand, is more than enough to play diablo or torchlight.
I tried looking at ibuypower, newegg, and cyberpowerpc and i dont seem to be able to build something for less than $500. And that does not include a monitor or a copy of windows.
If anyone has other options or ideas, feel free to share!

Dell is actually anothr option I was considering. I was looking at the i5 XPS 8500 but I didnt know if the Radeon 7570 that included for strong enough to play diablo on high settings or if I needed to upgrade to a geforce 640 or radeon 7770. Any input on that?

i just got a dell xps desktop with the 640 in it and it works great for d3, runs everything on ultra, but I also got the i7.
ETA: Make sure you got a high res monitor as well. They sent me one that only went to 1600 so I had to spend another 300 bucks on a better one later.

The i7 makes basically no difference for gaming over the i5. Maybe 3 to 5 fps.

HERE YOU GO
Probably find a cheaper monitor that's better than the one I picked, and it has a video card that is great in budget builds.

That looks great. Thanks blue!

Dont buy a dell.
Haha. I'll keep that in mind.
Blue's build looks very interesting but I've never built my own PC before. Does anyone know of a good tutorial that they've used before?
Or if I were to try to find someone to build it for me, how much do people usually charge for that?

It's not nearly as hard as it looks.
Great Video on how to build. I used this as my guideline. Checkout HERE for some other good info

Thanks again blue! I guess I'll give it a shot and start getting all my parts.

surely you have a friend that will do it for some beer.
+1 on the dont buy a dell, or at least not one with a specialty mobo. high fail rate + sky high replacement cost = bad value.
There are several of us on here that have built our first PCs this year, it's very daunting and while you are doing it you will be scared of screwing something up, but once you are done you will be like "hell that wasn't hard at all."

It's like lego's nowadays...
Literally less than 20 screws and everything else snaps into place. I showed my 7 year old niece and she was like "That's it?!"
