You forgot to include the south LA store address where we go pick up our free pistols, test them out, and then give you the review. OB protocol.

Not the best pistol S&W ever made but I know a guy that has one and he loves it. What do you plan on using it for?

Or you could put it that way.

Definitely, although I just looked at posts and it's absolutely a guy with a girls screen name

1. I assume you're considering it for self defense. It's not especially well suited for that, but it surely isn't a target//plinking//competition gun.
2. Sigmas' quality control and reliability are better than they used to be. But that's not saying much since they were, for a long time, one of the least reliable pistols on the market.
3. The triggers still suck. And there isn't really any fix for that.
4. You'd be far better off with a Glock//M&P//Sig//H-K. They will cost more (at least an extra $200), but I don't know what value you place on your life.
5. If you simply can't afford the extra $200, you'd be far better off buying a used (police trade-in) Glock//M&P//Sig//H-K.

Makes a better blunt instrument than a pistol.

A buddy of mine bought one in 9mm several years ago and its a POS.

You must be talking about the M&P which is a bold statement, because everyone has said the Sigmas are garbage.

Bombblonde,
I looked at this particular gun pretty closely (although in 9mm) when I was in the market for a handgun for my son. I've ALWAYS given S&W Sigma a very hard time on the OB (if you don't believe me you can search my prior posts.) However, after visiting a local gun show and handling a large number of self defense handguns, my son said the S&W felt the best in his hand. I then had to research it heavily. I found out that the gun you're referring to is the third or fourth version of the Sigma. The version just prior to this was marketed at "Self Defense" and even included night sights (SD40 and SD9). Along the line, S&W made some minor changes in the guns (e.g. Picattiny rail) including some improvements on the trigger; they also dropped the name, "Sigma." The Sigma was best known for a HORRIBLE trigger that was both long and heavy; many shooters also had significant reliability problems. The new model has an improved trigger, although still not up to the trigger on Glocks, M&P and others. OTOH, the gun you're looking at only runs about $330. After all the research and shooting a number of sd guns what did we end up w/? A police trade in Glock Model 19 in 9mm. The newest version you're looking at is apparently better than the Sigma, but I could never feel comfortable w/ it. Warning, police trade in 9mm's are getting hard to find, but 40's are plentiful.

S&W is way overrated.
Crystal meth is one hell of a drug.
If you want a S&W, I would go ahead and step up to an M&P.
Bud's Gun Shop lists an M&P9 at $479. If you can't spend that much, I guess the SD is good for you. The trigger is still too heavy for a starting shooter, but if you've been around them a while, you may be decent with it. Or you could get a trigger job.
My friend has a couple Sigmas, and although they are VERY hard to shoot with the terrible trigger, they are very reliable. They've never failed to feed or eject anything. They are just difficult to get a good trigger squeeze on.
