Graduate School of Banking?

Is it worth the time investment? I am an accountant that works for a billion plus bank....they want me to go....I don't think I want to.
I want to finish my CPA exam and be done with school / study....I have an accounting and finance degree.
Money Board thoughts? Is is worth the time investment to have that on your resume?

Pain in the arse when you'd rather be doing something else. Despite the name, it's undergrad-level stuff. Somewhat useful for people who don't have a banking/finance/accounting degree. With your academic background, you probably won't learn anything you don't already know. One of those things that's expected of you, but meaningless. I'm sure somebody will be along to disagree with me, but that's my take.
ETA: On the plus side, there's the networking factor, if that's important to you.

It's not actually a grad school, it's sort of a professional development program for bankers. A few weeks over two or three summers. Like I said, somewhat useful if you don't have an academic background in finance or related area...if you came into banking from another major or another career, consider it. Otherwise. I'd give it a pass if your employer will let you without consequences. OTOH, if your bank is a stickler for that kind of shite, maybe best to just bite the bullet. It's no mental strain for someone who's had the undergrad classes, just takes up your time.

I figured it was something along those lines. I was picturing a credit training program for banks that don't have their own.

I want to be a CPA and one day be a CFO for a bank.....working on the CPA now....climbing the corporate ladder....I don't want to be in lending / sales.
I would love to become a consultant for bank boards once I get some gray hair....

I guess it couldn't hurt to have that on your resume, but with a CPA you should be gtg. I'm not saying it's a complete waste of time, but if you really don't want to do it and your employer's ok with your not going, I wouldn't sweat it.

I would do it for these reasons...besides, I would find it hard to turn down anything they offer training wise...unless there would be some reason you couldn't do it.

IMO part of climbing the corporate ladder is doing BS like this...especially if offered/encouraged by your bank. If it somehow interferes with your CPA prep you should find a way to get out of it.

The Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia is the best. It coordinates with the Wharton Graduate School there.

If you want to be a CFO for a bank, you'd be an idiot not to go to this. I am a commercial banker and graduated from the LSU School of Banking.
Do you know what ALCO is? If you can't answer that then you definitely need to attend. The program teaches you how to be a generalist in the banking sense rather than a specialist (ie CFO). While you may want to be a CFO, the school will give you a great feel of the other parts to running a bank, all of which will help you succeed as a CFO.
There are a lot more to banks these days than just taking in deposits and making loans. Throw in all the new Regs that come out daily it seems and you have more crap to worry with than you know what to do with!

I am a bank examiner for the government and a lot of my colleagues have attended LSU Graduate School of Banking....they speak really high of the program. I hear it is very good for networking and I would definitely go when I get the chance. If you want to stay in banking then it would be foolish not to attend.

Anyone else care to wager an opinion on this? I'm considering signing up but am on the fence if it will help me further my banking career. I am already a mid level executive on track for advancing. But this is appealing to me for a few reasons.
