I actually think this was treated like a scrimmage. In fact the
play calling was so predictable, Rueben Randle was on twitter saying he predicted the play calls during the game.

I liked what i saw from Russel Shepard on that TD that was
called back. He actually looked like a WR with the route he
ran.

Reid was basically playing CB on those plays NT scored on.
Chavis will make adjustments this week in practice.

La'el Collins will be a top 10 pick in the future. He looked
like a 5th year senior on the run plays last night.

There won't be too many teams stopping our run game. I liked the long arse time eating drive in the 3rd qtr. LSU will need those type of drives in sec play

Can't rely on a run game and not be proficient in the passing game only when you "need" it.

Little disappointed with our play calling in different situations but we will improve in each game. If Lsu screws around next week we will have a tough time.

Your other points are good, but no way Shepard was crisp on that play. It was a great play and I'm glad Shep did everything he need to do, but his route running could have been a little better for a senior.

I was too concerned with beer and conversation. Only glanced at score to be sure an a abomination was not occurring

The QB play basically looked like it has the last 3 years?

That is the basics?

You're right. I think they bring it all together next week though

I think we've seen the playbook and that was pretty much it.

My game assessments

This was a typical Miles effort. Signs of greatness and concern in the same game. The exception, not the rule is when we click on all facets.

My biggest concern was the pass protection for Mett and sloppy execution. This was game one, but against weaker opponents like N Texas, we should not struggle in those areas.

We will have a good year and hope its a great one.

We get it. LSU plays Alabama next week and Bama is going to roll.

I hope there are more passing plays than we saw last night, I hope this isn't a preview of what is to come.
You can't play scared especially in the SEC. this team looked like the team of 2years ago.
Last years team won most of the games going away and looked unstoppable at times.
That assessment of "same stuff as last year" I'd say is off.

I think we are disappointed because we expected a wide open passing game aka Drew Brees and we didn't get that.

These guys are going to have to trust their arms and the coaches are going to have to let them make some hard throws..IMO

As for the "running game" ...maybe the best I've ever seen.

I think the biggest thing the team needs to address is the OL. Looked like Mett was under pressure the whole game. And that looked like the last several years of LSU football.
The OL can make a below average QB look great and an above average QB look bad.

My question is: When will LSU get a Coach that can coach them an above average OL?

And all from the right side of the line, at least what I saw while at the game. With depth we have these guys better get in gear or hope others get a shot

I had great hope when we threw on 3rd and 1 early in the game. Shocked the hell out of me, then went back to the norm.
