Only four times total in the past five seasons did we have a QB who had a completion % of 70 or greater when attempting 20 or more passes in a game:
1. JL v. Miss. St. (2011)
2. JL v. Auburn (2011)
3. JJ v. North Carolina (2010)
4. MF v. Ohio St. (2007)

Mett did it tonight in his first FBS start.

Fair enough, but a lot of lateral passes and a few screens doesn't get me all wet inside.

I'm sure no more than 6 or 7 of his passes tonight were over 5 yards

Did you see jj and JL throw screens? I am amazed Shepard isn't brain damaged from jj hanging him out to dry repeatedly.

I was complaining about the number of screen passes like many posters on this board, but you can see that the coaches were setting up the stop and go for the end of the third and forth quarters. And it worked except for a penalty that nullified Shepard's TD.

Yeah but not that many. There were like 20 passes that went no further than 2 yards from the LOS.

They weren't setting it up per se, they were more taking what was given to them and the stop and go was a byproduct of that. I, like many others, still insist we need to work on more Downfield passing during these easy games.

we need to get arkansas state on the schedule so we could be up 50-3 half way through the 2nd quarter

I'm not saying Mett played poorly, just that with the types of passes we were calling he should complete 70%. It's not like he played amazingly either.

Man that's been our passing game for years, 75% of pass plays happen behind the line of scrimmage or 5 yards past.

We're just gonna have to agree to disagree because I don't recall seeing us ever throw such a high percentage of screens and laterals. We threw the ball downfield more with JJ and JLee than we did tonight.

You can't be up 50-3 in the second quarter with our current offensive scheme

I promise I'm not trying to be a douche, but if we're "taking what is given" versus North freakin' Texas...isn't that a red flag? At what point are able to impose our will? Maybe I was over zealous, but I felt like we would be able to do that to a greater degree than we were able to tonight.
