One of my favorite 90s musicians. Writes his own stuff, sings and plays most instruments. I love his alternative rock/pop style with heavy guitar action mixed throughout.

Still have in him in heavy iphone music rotation.

Anybody like Matthew Sweet?

A good rule for threads like this is to link or at least recommend some songs for people who are unfamiliar with the artist

Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend

Liked some of his stuff... saw him at the Varsity, early 90's, but he played a short concert since he was sick...

I liked the album "Girlfriend"
"Altered Beast" was ok... haven't heard anything after that, though.

My favorite song of his is "Falling" but it wasn't one of his hits, so I can't find a good video of it. There is a funny cover of it by some Japanese band. Apparently, he is very popular in Japan.

Yeah, I own Girlfriend and nothing else. Great album, but I've never been that interested in the rest of his stuff.

Girlfriend is a masterpiece, and actually a very influential album. Altered Beast and 100% Fun are good, but not as great as the first.

He has a crunchy guitar sound that I really love, and very catchy riffs.

If you wanna hear some cool stuff, check out his duet covers with Susanna Hoffs. I really love her voice, and as a team they do some fantastic covers.

There are two volumes called "Under the covers". Vol 1 is all pop/rock songs from the 60s and vol2 is from the 70s. The songs are great choices too, not strictly mainstream stuff. Not exactly obscure, but album tracks. Really awesome collection of tunes on both volumes.

I especially like them doing Little Feat's "Willin" and Neil Young's "Everybody Knows this is Nowhere"

LINK
couldnt find the album versions on youtube (they sound way better together in the studio than here)

LINK(again album electric version is way better than this)

Like Matthew Sweet. Big fan of power pop. Sick of Myself never gets old. Hollow and Come to California are good ones too.

Like his stuff. By the way, he is like John Madden in his travel habits, even when he was big

Love Matthew Sweet... Some records are a little uneven...

And those 2 cover records with Hoffs are fun... Love the bell bottomed blues cover

His collaboration with Susannah Hoffs is solid, but I'm biased, since I've been deeply in love with her since about 1982.

ETA: in a non-stalker way, of course

back off bro she belongs to me

After seeing this thread. I spent most of last night watching her on youtube, and the flame is strongly rekindled

No other 53 year old woman has ever given me these feelings in my pants

Seriously. She looks just as good now as she did in the '80's.

Pretty big fan of his in the '90s. Saw him live at Zephyrfest around 1995. Seemed kind of dickish when he made a sarcastic comment about people crowdsurfing during one of his songs.
