That is incorrect. They have a mandatory evacuation for Kentwood, Tangiophoa, Roseland, Amite, Independence, Loranger, and Robert. All areas along the Tangipohoa river. A mile on each side of the river.

Yep, I misheard him. Thank you for correcting.

Has it ever been mentioned how many gallons could be released. I know the lake isn't huge. But it's at least 50acres or bigger. That would be plenty water released all at once.

Hopefully things are under control soon.

It's that big. I had no idea. That would make a really big flood.

325000 gallons per acre foot. That would be a few billion gallons.

Just heard that the dam is NOT LEAKING.They are looking at a controlled break that would send water into the hills. They are also pumping water out.Just heard that on the radio from a Pike county supervisor.

I dont think it was leaking, a piece of the front crumbled off making it weaker and leading to the inevitable. Hopefully, the rain headed that way doesnt do any more damage.

About 1/4 of a mile away from the river here in Amite. Praying the levee holds.

Why is the Weather Cbannel showing footage of a breached dam at Lake Tangipahoa with water rushing out under a bridge?

That's the normal spillway under the bridge. The backside of the levee shows 2 areas of mudslides have occurred making the levee weaker. If that fails, it's Katy bar the door.

Seems like the Mississippi Govenor and Jindal at odds over this. Miss Gov saying even if dam fails thier are safe guards to route the water away from Louisiana and want be a big deal. Jindal saying if dam fails water would cause the rivet to flood thousands of homes. Don't know what to believe. My guess is Jindal trying to covet his arse in case the worst happens.
