Mates, this show is almost as good as "Downton Abbey" or "Mad Men". I can't wait to be caught up, but at the same time I'm enjoying it so much. I'm on season 1 episode 7.
I love that blonde English chick almost as much as I love Mary on "Downton Abbey"

Better than Downton Abbey ever hoped to be

The blonde chick is gorgeous, but the show is average imo. I'm hoping it gets better.

I respect your opinion but I completely disagree. I am pretty much right where you are in the series and I seriously cannot get into it. I think my main thing is that I really don't care for any particular character thus far.
I'm gonna stick with it at least through to the current episodes. Hope it gets better.

I watched the first three episodes with Mrs. Baloo and we both absolutely hated it. I really wanted it to be good, because of my deep love of Westerns but wow... I just actively hated it.

That's what your mom said.

I watched the first couple episodes myself and lost interest too. I was curious if it ever picked back up.

Yeah, I just felt the characters were so poorly drawn that there was no saving the show. I think my issues were summed up best by having the main character be a Southern slaveowner... who voluntarily freed his slaves. I think they took an internal struggle of a man that could have been interesting (coming to terms with owning people and seeing everyone's humanity) and just eliminated it right away because they were manipulating the audience into siding with the hero. Sure, he has a "dark" side, but not too dark.
It was a cop out. Had it been just the one, I'd let it slide, but that's pretty much how the whole show operates. And the railroad owner practically twirled his moustache in every seen.

First 3 episodes weren't very good, but I have to admit it has really picked up and although it's not a "great" show it's still good.

SPOILERS
He doesn't have one.

If you only watched 3 episodes how would you know this? Sounds like you just trolled for others opinions and are stealing them to sound "in the know"

I can't determine whether a show is well-written within three episodes, which is about two and half hours of content? How long am I supposed to stick with something before I can dislike it? I thought three episodes was a pretty fair shot for a new shot. I thought the writing was awful and the characters extremely one note. So I bailed.
I didn't say others were terrible people for liking it. I'm perfectly comfortable with people having different opinions and tastes in pop culture. I actively disliked the show and thought the writing -- and I care more about writing than any other single element in TV/movies -- was substandard.
You are free to make the opposite case. That's how the free exchange of ideas works. But I find it telling that the fans of the show can't seem to refute my criticisms, and instead feel the need to insult me. Aside from my "so's your mom" joke, I actually put forth a logical argument. You are free to disagree with it at your leisure.

I really like the show. It did start slow, but I think it has done a good job of developing the characters over time. This season has been a lot better. The last scene of last week's episode was awesome.

The show took a while to find its feet, but does get better.

Thats what I am hoping for as I keep watching into the 2nd season, but as of now, this show is kinda a chore.
I love getting to that magical point in a show where you realize "holy shite I really like this show." That just hasn't happened yet.
