Could be a dumb question but does anyone think it will be possible to get to New Orleans from I-55? My dad is in New Orleans and has had serious damage to his house and I would like to get to him as soon as possible to help and make sure he is ok.

Also, prayers sent to the people stranded in the homes in the Laplace area. I hope they are rescued safely.

My next door neighbor is stuck in his attic and confirmed more people stuck in attic on Riverlands. That is about 5 miles from my house.

Media might catch on soon.

Going to be rough after we lost everything in Katrina too. Have a 3 week old and 4 year old.

Wow, prayers sent.

Where is the water coming from in Laplace?

I see on google there is a channel coming down I-55 and one coming from Lake Maurepas.

I know of a couple stuck on Bienville St. House doesn't have much water, but too much water on road to leave. I haven't heard from them in an hour and the St. John number to call is busy. If anyone knows another number to use to alert the authorities, please post. Thanks.

ETA: Just heard from them. They called the authorities, but looks like they may be walking out.

My inlaws live in The Links in Belle Terre and I believe they don't have any water. Hopefully it stays that way.

I hope everyone is okay :(

I will never understand ignoring mandatory evacuations Actually, LaPlace is St. John Parish huh? They had an evacuation too or just St Charles?

I'll never understand, especially after Katrina, why someone would go into the attic when the water starts rising.

What the frick do you think they should do instead - shot of evacuating beforehand of course?

Laplace had no mandatory evac. I live in bunkie so the inlaws have a place to go and they would if forced. They weren't.

Correct. Also Laplace has never had flooding problems. At least nothing near what is going on now. Gustav hit pretty close with a similar wind field for the area and there were no problems.

Had zero issues with Katrina or Gustav with regards to flooding. This was not expected.
