Carnival cruise leaving thursday
Posted by lsutigerfan58 on 8/28/12 at 9:51 pm00
I am supposed to leave Thursday from New Orleans for a cruise. Carnival still hasn't cancelled/postponed the cruise. My wife is a paramedic and was activated for emergency staffing and had her vacation time cancelled. Carnival said there is no way we can get our money back or get a credit for a future cruise.
Who thinks that this cruise will actually happen?

I will predict they will end up changing their thoughts on this.

My parents were supposed to go on a Carnival cruise that I bought for him in 2005 the Thursday after Katrina. They had the cruise leave from Galveston instead BUT they also contacted everyone and gave them the option of taking that cruise or getting a full refund. My parents took the refund and a check was in the mail pretty quick.
I realize Katrina was a totally different situation...but you should bring that up to them.

Yeah I just don't know how in the hell a cruise can leave from Nola anytime in the next few days. The thing that pisses me off the most is that they won't let us know anything until tomorrow at the earliest.

"Hi there!
We know you must be looking forward to your cruise on Thursday and are anxiously awaiting news regarding the effects of Hurricane Isaac.
As you may know, Hurricane Isaac is expected to make landfall off the coast of Louisiana later this evening. Local officials have informed us the Mississippi River is currently closed to ship traffic and may cause a delay in our return to New Orleans on Thursday. We're keeping our fingers crossed the weather will cooperate and not impact our plans.
To stay up to date on any changes that may affect our departure, port closures, and weather updates, we encourage you to sign up for text alerts by texting CCL1 to CRUISE (278473). If you have already done so during your online check-in, you will automatically receive updates. You can also visit our website and click on the 'Weather Alert' icon on the top of the page.
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide you an update on any new developments.
We can't wait to welcome you aboard"
I got this email earlier today regarding that cruise. I'm almost to the point that I don't want to go and just want my money back. I guess we will see.

Still no update from carnival. We are supposed to be leaving in 24 hours. There is no way that is happening so why don't they just let us know something now.

The problem is going to be getting into Nola and to the port tomorrow. Carnival is acting like it will be no problem to jump in my car and be ready to go tomorrow.

Considering the causeway is closed and I-10 at Laplace is underwater, I'd say you are SOOL and you should demand a refund

Whatever you do, don't let them frick you over without refund/cruise credit. Flip out on them as much as you need to.

Already said they would not issue a refund unless the cruise is cancelled

Delta did this shite to me in 2008. Was supposed to fly out of Nola the day Gustav hit and they refused to rebook me out of another airport until the flight was actually canceled (and the people on the phone apparently don't know what contraflow is right before a storm hits).
I yelled at enough people and they rebooked me for free. But yes they will wait until the absolute last minute.

Call, call, call, ask for supervisors... Write letters. They will refund or credit you
