At what point do officials say...enough is enough, you are on your own. Mandatory Evac = No Rescue.

Curious...were any shelters opened in Plaquemines?

so where on the map is all that flooding and people being rescued at?

I've never been to NOLA so I don't really know the little areas around there. I saw a town called Plaquemine b/n BR and NOLA but I doubt that kind of flooding is that far up river.

The parish that follows the river from NO to the mouth is Plaquemine Parish

K, thanks. Stay safe.

Are those sea walls causing overflow of the levees in that parish?

The towns are situated along the MS river levee for the most part (federal levee that has been solid for decades) and then there is a back levee (behind the neighborhoods) whith is a local earthen levee that keeps the tide and high water from the marshes out. The back levee was over topped and broke so the water rushed in and filled the neighborhood in 5 minutes all the way to the River levee....

Best I can explain it simply

On those back levees, is it storm surge coming up the marshes or rainwater draining into the canals that caused the water to rise over them?

Days ago I had a bad feeling about this one so I've been watching it and following these threads. Pretty sure I'd GTFO and not even think twice about it. Better safe than sorry in my book.

This... so every bit of storm surge is in the neighborhoods with nothing stopping it.... That's why water is over topping roofs in certain areas

Damn, storm surge is no joke. If you don't live on high ground it's best to get a couple hundred miles inland. Well, at least out of vulnerable areas.

I have thought about this ever since Katrina. I don't think that area can be protected.Actually thought that some of St. Bernard would be included.
