I felt like all along he would be an OK receiver but that given the opportunity, he could be a special quarterback. I know he showed flashes of brilliance early and we wanted to put the ball in his hands, but he has essentailly been a non-factor for a couple of years.

In my opinion, LSU (maybe not Shepard) would have been better served by rolling the dice on him as a qb and forgetting about him as a "slash" guy.

I know he got an "opportunity" at qb, but I'm just not sure how legit that opportunity was.

Thoughts?

It will be really nice to have actual football to discuss next week!

I think you meant Shepard?? By the fact you can't spell his name correctly indicates his lack of production.

Absolutely. No way he would have been worse than Jefferson.

Thanks. It's like I have a mental block with his name.

This the first TIME EVER that a thread like this has been started. What an innovative thinker you are. Good god, I need to go hang myself.

I've heard on multiple occasions that Shep never got a grasp on the play book like other players. I may be wrong, but I find it odd.

I guess I was under the false impression that message boards were for messaging not research, but thanks for the input.

No. He doesn't have the arm to play QB. He could've played in an Oregon style offense maybe. He's a better runner than anything else but doesn't have the size to take a lot of hits, so RB was out of the question. At wr he just isn't natural and actually looks rather unathletic playing it. Basically he's an athlete without a position.

Alongside Matt Barkley, Shepard was considered the top quarterback of the high school class of 2009 by both Rivals.com[2] and Scout.com[3] before converting to wide receiver upon arriving at LSU.

"an athlete without a position"

Best description I've heard.

he was totally misjudged. Doesn't have the arm to play QB and not really a great athlete. He is a good athlete though. Probably should have been a 4 star on rivals. Is developing into a pretty good WR. Could be a good contributer this season and possibly work himself into a mid to late round draft pick.

Despite what you think you are as a talent evaluater and despite what you saw on the high school videos of him, he was not QB material.

He was given chances and it was not even close to being a success.

Yea we musused him. His freshmen year we used him in the wildcat and had success and after that we cut him and the wildcat out. The guy makes Plays with the ball in his hands and in space. I think he could he have been a great change of pace HB. He has great vision which is also why he would have been a great returner. And if Anybody says anything about his hands I would like to say trindon Holliday had the worst hands and he returned Punts.

Thats all great and everything, but he seems to go down too easy and doesn't seem to have great vision. Ya'll are going to just have to accept it one day that he is not going to live up to the hype of his recruiting info.

With that said, the guy has been a great leader and I think he will have a pretty good year this year.
