There was no doubt that our defense was going to be strong again this year. The Chief continues to deliver. 7 days!

How the F*** is Bama Number they lost there whole god damn defense. I love how they make excuses for them in the article but still put them at number one. Lsu at number 4 is to low. Did CFN not watch Texas and Florida state last year. Not saying they won't be good this year but all of a sudden these 2 teams will just improve that much and be better than Lsu on D. GTFO

Bama loses there whole defense but their tackle but that shouldn't stop them from being number one

Lol that's what I was thinking. So a tackle, a CB and a bunch of jucos and they're number 1 . Yeah we have questions at lb and the secondary, but our DL is like the college equivalent of the NY Giants DL for the past 5-6 years.

I'm having a hard time buying the "Bama is a better team" this year also. They have much bigger losses to replace on defense than us it would seem, without getting into the offensive side of the ball. At some point you just accept the media always will give them a higher rank than they probably should on some of this stuff and just let it go. It's probably best to not really worry about what Alabama does because if LSU handles business it won't really matter.

USC's defense at #8 is a bunch of bull. Last year, they were #49 giving up 374 yds per game with only 9 picks all season.

Well I hate Baja more than anyone... but a lot of their replacements have played in big roles last year... most of our new starters on DB are frosh or barely and play experience ... after the first 3 lbs we are expecting 4-5 freshmen to play w no experience again... I love our team and yes our d line is sick... but in all reality we do have some youngns about to play

Good thing it's not last year chief, otherwise you'd end up disappointed again.

Am I to interpret that you're taking up for USC's defense, which is thirty spots worse than 5 SEC teams? If so butt nugget, you're on the wrong board.

I am so tired of the Alabama lovefest! They could literally lose their entire defense, and they would still be number one. Here's hoping the Tigers take care of business this year and leave no doubt!!

All in all a fair article, I think.

Florida State is legit - they have more proven players than Bama does, that's for sure. I think LSU and FSU will end up #1/#2 by season's end (and yes, FSU does not play the schedule we do - I am aware).

wishful thinking....Simon, who I don't yet consider elite, will be under immense pressure until Collins or Mills steps up and proves they can hang with SEC wideouts. as good as Eric Reid is, with TM7 and Ron Brooks gone, he might not be able to cheat on some plays as in the past. Loston....I'll believe (on the field) it when I see it.

that said....I hope Chavis finds a way to utilise the monster potential of Debo Jones the way Nebraska used to in a "rover" concept. I know many, including Chavis, want this kid at LB and I'm very sure the Cheif knows best but this kid, if he is anywhere near ready...needs to have his butt on the field destroying people. take their heart...take their will...make them quit.

this unit holds the key, just as much as Mett, to where we end up in the post season. JMHO.

Texas' defense is nasty as is FSU. This is very fair preseason. LSU's line is sick. Eric Reid is sick. Tharold Simon is about to explode. The rest are good but not great or are first time starters. The LBs could be really good but they have to prove it.

Yeah but they also have the best defensive mind in football coaching them and have tons of talent. As much as we all hate Saban at bama, he is the premier cfb coach and defensive guru. Safe bet putting their defense number one for as long as he is there.

I wouldn't trade ours for any others. That said:
- We would be deceiving ourselevs if we didn't think Bama will be great on D. As good as '11? Probably not. But they will be good.
- State, UF, and AU should be higher.
- UTex ? ? ? Diaz is a fantastic DC but they need to show it on the field.

I know we lost a lot of talent in the secondary. But we will be still be great.
