The problem is lot of good tech post are gone in an hour. THey get drowned out by how do you wipe your arse post, sitting up or standing down?

A tech board things would stay up and the advice would go up exponentially and cut down on the repetitive tech questions.

Exactly.

I see your point and I have nothing against a tech board.

I'm just saying my tech questions are usually pretty simple and I can get a very quick and exhaustive answer on the OT as opposed to a slower tech board.

If there is ever a tech board, I will probably spend 95% of my time refreshing just that board alone... I'm not alone either, you would more than likely get pretty quick answers from the likes of Polar Bear and the likes.

It just seems obvious to me. The nature of the board is newest hottest topics of interest. Almost impossible for good tech discussions to stay visible.

Can we just make the Help Board the Tech Board? After all, we'll all pretty much be posting to get or give tech help.

I see that a thread along these lines has started here already... !

Apple's iPhone 5 unveiling is this Wednesday.

The inevitable multi-page thread discussing the event would be a suitable first sticky for a nascent Technology Board...

Serious question, but what is wrong with tech posts on the OT? Why does it need it's own board?

Because they're drowned out by some of the bullshite of the OT. Some of those threads would have gone on for much longer, like the Mars Rover one for starters would still be going on pretty strong with updates from it.

I wasn't a fan of those boards either.

So what? I'm not a fan of three of those, but I am definitely a regular contributer to the M/TV board. The only board where its backfired is the Poliboard really. Each of those boards have their own communities, and I'd say I feel closer to most M/TV posters than I do OT posters. M/TV posters have a shared interest with me and we're not exactly confrontational either. I constantly take advise from users there, we challenge each other's knowledge in film, and I now feel I am much more knowledagble in film and story structure than I was before arriving here. With the OT, probably 10% or less I have a lot in common with. OT accels to fast for their to be a real community outside of the lunch and LNST. Tech would also form a tightly knit community that would likely only improve the site and its appeal.

Flattery will get you everywhere. I've had very serious conversations there.

I have as well, but lets compare most nerdy tech threads vs a thread where some guy gets caught jacking off on his neighbor's front lawn. Yeah, real meaningful discussion goes on the for the 12 pages it continues. Really the only time tech threads survive for any amount of time is during the late night, and they're quickly buried by noon the next day never to be heard from again. If movie news was put on the OT, it would be buried instantly. I'd like for some of the more in depth discussions to continue on regularly during the day, which may continue for 3 or 4 pages, but its quickly buried.

No. Help should be more for problems with the site and its users. We don't want some bullshite that's going on in the Rant invading the board. Tech should cover any technology and scientific questions since those subjects tend to go hand-in-hand like movies and television do.

Honestly, the Tech Board should work like this. You would have the occasional OT users stopping by when they have tech problems or want to know something about a product. We'll be more than happy to help, and that thread will enter the second page within 6-12 hours.

I envision it being more like the M/TV board. People who are knowledgeable on the subjects can have very in depth conversations about technology, science, and the trends in the field and where it can advance. I think it will be a rather civil board that has a lot of potential. Pretty much the only type of tech we wouldn't really talk about are gaming consoles.

Actually, I'm not so sure about this. I would posit that the Tech board would be one of the more active boards on this site. There is a plethora of new headlines every day in the realm of technology. It wouldn't be a "seasonal" board like the Saints or Hornets board, and it wouldn't be as slow as, say, the Music Board or Gaming Board. On an average day, I would say its activity level would be commensurate to that of Political Talk or the Movie/TV board, with less popular threads falling off the first page in 1.5 to 2 hours.

On the OT, an unanswered thread can be buried to page 2 within 10-20 minutes (or less...).

I think the tech board would be on par with the m/t board, maybe a little more.. but nowhere close to current poli board traffic.

True, but in this case, they're already here.

A glance at the OT on any given day will reveal this.

Would he be the one to make the decision?

Fred implied that this is Dhillip's choice...

The final OK would go through chicken... getting the ball rolling would be dhillip's place.

So is Fred just trolling us with these "Dhillip is mulling it over, please be patient" posts?
